This vid is pretty accurate to what I went through. If you "Respect" the throttle it is fine... When I first got on the bike, I was pretty scared to do the speed limit 40mph lol... took me a few days and I was okay with it... I basically made sectioned off RPMs to train in until I felt comfortable to get to the next section of RPM, kind of like what this guy said.... it took me several weeks to a couple months to be able to redline it.

@@phreak074 your underestimating the value of the MSF course you took. Learning proper safety and techniques go a long way, it’s the people with no training and no experience that jump on 600’s and hurt themselves. Started on a 250 and 1500 miles later got an r6. I would have been in the hospital for sure if I started on my r6. I made a lot of mistakes learning how to ride which would definitely loop my r6 right on top of me. It feels considerably heavier too and less flickable. New riders have a hard time with low speed maneuvers and that’s why I wouldn’t recommend a 600 to any new rider.
@MrMilk-ug6gl3 жыл бұрын
I came here to say this. I started on a ninja 250 and I made some small mistakes on that 250 that may have seriously hurt me if I was on a 600. I now have a Honda CBR 600RR and love it immensely, but you can't put a value starting with something smaller so you can make those mistakes.....a 600 is a lot of bike.....in comparison to some others it's not, but let's not be stupid and pretend like a 600 isn't a ridiculous amount of power. The 600 will be there later, don't hurt yourself! By this same logic in the video you can start on a liter bike..."be careful and dont be stupid" is entirely subjective and having that extra power just gives greater opportunity to make mistakes.

Great explanation on RPM, agree completely. Love the R6. i started on a HEAVY 95 Suzuki 600, in my experience "dangers" for beginners include: "monkey" throttle on starts. Passing irresponsibly in traffic (fast and without warning to other drivers) and turning at high speeds (anything above recommended speed limit). And I might add that "Intimidation" (being scared) will cloud the mind (common sense) for new riders. (Most) people know what the right thing to do to handle situations are but the "first time experience" clouds judgment. I would say to combat the "first time experience" would be multiple short rides in low traffic or no traffic would be the answer.

The only issue I see others having are the basics such as handling the throttle and shifting, balance, body position when turning, braking properly etc. These all can be learned on almost any bike, but I will say 250s are almost fool proof due to how slow they and how light they are.

Makes it all a much better experience in the civic doesn't it? You can all do what you want but theres a reason why professionals and many experienced motorcyclists do not recommend a super sport as your first bike. The impatience of many young or newer riders to get into motorcycling on the bike they want to ride vs the bike they should be riding will forever be a problem. You make up a large percentage of the "death machine" statistics after you go down and wreck your shit. I know my words will be read and ignored, so fuck it.

Well.. if you just don't be a douche bag and get rid of the ego, then starting on a 600 isn't going to be much different. If I start on a 125cc, got used to it. Then realize I'd like to go higher, not only have you just wasted money on the 125cc, you're going to be comfortable with that bike, then say I decide to upgrade. Now I'm going to have to spend even more time getting used to a different bike. While if I had just started on a 600cc in the beginning, you'll have A. Saved probably at least £5000 B. You'll have gotten used to the 600cc in the first place, if you only start on a 600cc to start with you're not going to know any different. The only difference between a 600cc and a 125cc, is probably a bit heavier, slightly more difficult to control. All issues can be avoided regardless of what cc you start on or even just bike in general you start on.. it wont matter as long as you're not an idiot.

I agree. I started on a 650. But only because I researched it, and found it to be a bike with a smooth, predictable, and forgiving powerband. If that bike didn't exist, I'd probably start on a 300.

Recently i’ve built a newfound passion for motorcycles and want to get my own bike to start riding. KZbin has been recommending me a handful of these “Starting on 600cc Bike. Worth it or not?” and well, even though i personally feel very comfortable on my friends dirt bike, that’s maybe around 150cc’s, to the point where i can literally full throttle it and reach the max speed on dirt roads... I’m still leaning and 99% likely as of right now to go out and buy myself a ninja 300 only because I know myself and i’m a sucker for speed. To avoid the temptation of the power of a super sport bike, i’ll buy a 300 first and then sell it and buy a 600. From the prices i’ve been seeing online for used bikes i’ll only lose $1-2k for the upgrade. and that’s only as far as the investment goes. i think that amount of money is worth the learning experience. not sure why i said all of this, maybe so that somebody else in my position will read it and have a better understanding. in the end, i’m not scared to die. i’m just scared of living the rest of my life handicapped.

I almost think a CBR600 would be a better 600 to start on. From looking at the dyno curves it looks like the CBR has a more linear powerband so you won't be surprised at 8000 RPM when it's like a bomb went off behind you. This is coming from someone who has never ridden before, but is looking to get into a 600. Good video man, glad you have common sense.

Jackisaboss1208 the r6 is well known for not being very powerful in the low rpms, still using the same engine in 2018 from 06

If you have a 2019 r6 wack it in B mode it will be a R3
@chop20935 жыл бұрын
Patricia Richardson I agree. I have a 2019 R6 and B mode is super chill. I wouldn’t say it feels like an R3 in B mode but it definitely makes the throttle less twitchy and makes it easier to ride smoothly

I started on a moto guzi, about 12 hours seat time on that and then got my first bike. A 2007 GSXR 600. It's not the power that gets you in trouble it's the riding stance. Just my opinion.

The new kawasaki and Suzuki bikes now have power modes. Certain modes dial the power back.

Lots of great points.. Always be scanning whats around you . Leave room between yourself and others tailgating is more dangerous then speed and tailgating is just stupid.. Iv seen alot of shit when I was a first responder.

I got my motorcycle a week ago. Everyone said I would not be able to handle a 600 as my first bike. I feel like it's not enough power I thought it'd be faster lol

My plan is to snag a tiny lil’ used bike as cheap as I can while still having a decent bike. No worries about hurting it, and I will learn until I don’t usually drop it and and am able to learn the basics. Then would come the 600 to supply fun for pretty much the rest of however long I survive. Then again, that plan might completely change.

It is better to start on a small bike but this means you will spend a lot of money. If you know yourself enough you can start on a sport bike. I know myself and for 1 year I had a Suzuki VL250 Intruder, 29 hp, 1 year Yamaha Dragstar 650 and now I wanna buy an R6. When I first start I wanted to go fast and the VL250 couldn't so it was a good idea for me. I respect you for being responsible!

You can start on any bikes because when you start, you are scared. Bikes are dangerous when you are not scared of the power of the machine, then it becomes an issue

I own a Honda CB 600 f Hornet with 102 HP and i started on it. Everybody kept telling me that 100 HP is too much... It isnt. A 600 inlne 4 will never ever surprise you if you are even half compentent. It only has power with RPM so you can controll that pretty well. In a straight line i used all the power right away because why the hell not? But as soon as i got close to a corner i started slowing down early and chose a high gear in in order to not overwhelm myself when i open up the throttle when the corner opens up. Whenever i felt the urge to really go for it while cornering i actually forced myself to drive especially slow in this corner. Its only after maybe 2 month that i allowed myself to go a bit faster.
