Yes and this erodes the news media’s role as the fourth estate. The problem isn’t the news. It’s just a channel (including literally at times). The problem is corporate interest. It’s like saying we should stop eating fish because there’s mercury poisoning. We argue around the merits of eating fish or not, the risks, the trade offs etc. When really we should be spending all the energy and time scrutinising who and what put the mercury there in the first place. But instead we have podcasts and books published that go on and on about fish..
