I find great the subdivision into instances by topic. You don't have to leave the local timeline to find interesting posts, but if you toot with a hashtag then anybody in the world can answer. Tomorrow the fosstodon local timeline will be more populated because of this video 🙂

I'm certainly liking the Mastodon experience, especially now that v4 has come out. I am on multiple instances, with each one covering a different niche area of interest. I've just followed you from my Linux Rocks account. 🙂 If anyone's an Android user, I highly recommend Tusky, for a mobile client! 👍

Discord seems to be the better choice for people who are looking for some more personal form of social media. I don't get this idea of following people. One person just ends up having more followers than another and the whole process of amplification begins where few ones get really big and the rest is bascially just there to give weight to their popularity.

Any communication services/platform/protocol which has more than two people communicating is a social media. Yes that includes, IRC, any other IM, forums and mailing lists. :)

What I don't like about the fediverse, as it is today, is that information is hidden behind a wall of JavaScript. That is no good. Text empowers the end user. I can understand a for-profit organization doing it, but I expected more from a decentralized community.

Well, it sucks to not have server render that precious page for you, forcing JS be active in your browser client, or you'll resort to other implementation. What would be for worse, though, is complicating Mastodon instances with server renderer for essentially a single page application with ever-dynamic *personalized* timelines, and adding unnecessary weight to maintainers as a result of that. To calculate the effects I suggest using average major instances' active users multiplied by times they surf per period. It's only reasonable for non-profit instances to delegate this task to client apps. Although, your SEO concerns are pretty valid. If SearX will integrate with Mastodon fediverse engine for search, I'll just promote SearX, because I couldn't care less for Mastodon posts flying in Google results.

i don't really do "social" stuff i got rid of twitter fb awhile back. the only thing i have is mastodon, and recently reddit. and odysee strictly for my linux stuff. i don't hardly log into them but i have them there just cause. the only social stuff i have and use most is discord and youtube. mostly for gaming stuff. and youtube to browse or search for stuff about games, linux, hunting fishing, whatever i like.

I really like your videos but social media is what you make it be it Twitter or FB or Mastodon. I personally don't like any of that stuff but for the most part the experience is what you make it. You don't have to blame or not blame that "elon guy". If Mastodon gets big we will be watching a video about Mastodon alternatives.
