Criminally underrated show, even the first season, I thought it was Ok and really helped set up characters, the reveals after Cap 2 are far greater if you knew the characters, I did watch it in all one week so I understand it might have been harder for those watching one episode per week, even still, the hate this show gets makes you think it's terrible while in fact it's at worst boring and building characters up.The writing and the acting on that show is great, it's quite different from other shows, in fact I'd say it's the only one of it's kind seeing as no show has tried to be in an ongoing movie universe, so while it's by no means perfect, it is trying something different..and it happens to be the only show that can sell me on stuff I don't want, I'd be like if they did X&Y I'll quit, then X&Y happens and somehow I'm totally on board :) If you absolutely want to skip some episodes, I'd go with 2,3,4 even though they have some plot points that will come back in later episode, it won't ruin the experience, episodes 8, 9 & 15 are kind of fillers too, but 9 is important to May's story that would be explored in season 2 and 7 &15 are Thor cross-overs so quite enjoyable if you like that franchise.

AoS is the best show out there and season 4, which had not aired yet when this video was made, is probably the best season of not only AoS but of any series on TV ever. And Episodes 1 to 16 of season 1 should never be skipped: to many details in those come back to haunt the team in subsequent seasons. People who complain about them are the same people who think there is nothing wrong with a president serving McDonalds/fast food to honoured guests at the White House; AoS was building their world in a realistic way (Episode 2, which is pointed out often as the «lease interesting episode, shows that clearly in having the newly formed team growing into working together while each member having a very different style of execution. That is brilliant writing that most shows don’t bother with, pretending that simply throwing talented people together means that they are automatically talented at working together at the drop of a dime, without earning anyone else’s trust first). And already, there were multiple arcs there too if you add the centipede story and the Cybertech development on top of Coulson’s mysterious resurrection from Avengers (Even important elements like gravitonium and alien writings find their origins in those episodes) People are just not patient anymore... #$@&%*! ADHD generations! 😉😂😂

I love and agree with most of what you say, but I completely disagree with the advice to new viewers to skip episodes. That would work only if all the viewer is interested in is the plot - but that's like saying you could just read Wiki summaries and enjoy the show the same. It is impossible to feel the emotional weight of what happens and what is revealed after the Winter Soldier revelations unless you have watched the early episodes and the team dynamic in them. Episodes 3, 6, 7 and 8 and to an extent 9 (in addition to the pilot and episode 5) in particular develop characters and relationships in important ways and set up a lot of things. Some of these also introduce important recurring characters (3, 7) or plot elements of the season 1 arc (4). Even the one episode I might consider skippable, episode 2 (which is also one of the few reaĺly bad episodes of the show) contains a dialogue that was referenced in a major way in the season 3 finale. And on the other hand, why would they skip those episodes? They are pretty generic, but for the most part not bad (I think that 6 and 8 are actually really good), certainly not something that's unbearable to get through, if the new viewer knows that there are exciting twists ahead if you stick with it. Huge numbers of people watch way more generic procedurals like Bones or Castle or the thousand and one CSI shows, so I'm not buying the idea that people just can't get through early AoS. I can see why many people lost interest early on as they thought that the show would always be a procedural, as there are so many such shows out there, but "wait till you see how it all comes together later in the season and how awesome it gets" would be enough for me to stick with it. And watching the entire season 1 without skipping episodes is a far more rewarding experience. No pun intended.

AOS is my fave show, but I have to disagree with a lot of opinions. I didn't think Season 1 pre-CA:TWS was bad. I actually think the bigger problems overall are recent. I think AOS has done a better job than a lot of folks expected. Maybe too good, because AOS storylines have being very long-ball and epic; and it does the films a disservice not to acknowledge it. I mean really, how epic can the plot get before the marquee characters would read about it? Or see hints of it on their own? The show started at the mercy of the films. The show has perhaps gotten too big. The films need to show it more love, or it undermines the storytelling. Regardless, I'm still a fan of the show, its players, it writers and producers. I suppose my criticism is more appropriately directed toward Feige/Perlmutter than anything else. AOS has done a great job. Perhaps... too good of a job.
@TVJunkie938 жыл бұрын
+alvincura Unfortunatly, I do not think we will ever get true acknowledgement of the television shows from the movies. Marvel CEO Issac Perlmutter controls the television division, while Kevin Feige controls the movies, and I don't think those two are on good terms at the moment.
@alvincura8 жыл бұрын
+TVJunkie I have to agree with you there. But the internal conflict is happening not only at the disservice of the fans, but at the disservice of those making the TV shows. I would still suggest that the shows have answered to the fans by producing bigger storylines, which widens the gap. IMO, I think that, as Feige is the more creative and story-servicing of the two; from the perspective of the fandom, the onus is on him to bridge the gap. Perlmutter is a business guy, with no heartstring to the source material to tug on.

Have you seen the animated version of the Flash characters? You can tell that they are animated. The Flash has the worst effects.

Wow the first 30 seconds of this video really sell me... oops no actually I'm a little bit ticked... Agents of SHIELD is a good show from the beginning. It connects to the MCU about as much as Ant-Man did... Literally all the movies are loosely connected anyway, except for crossovers OR major events. AOS has had minor crossovers and has been impacted by most of th e big events, particularly Hydra, The Accords, and so far Infinity War which is still pending on AoS. And if all you care about is a cameo by a Chris in leather, then you're not seeing the show for what it is. It's charming and funny and endearing and then all hydra breaks loose and everything gets super intense. But it was good from the get go. Otherwise the payoff would be earned. I know you are making this video in favor of Shield, but you don't need to hate on the first 15 episodes... which provide lots of world building, character development, and plot clues.
@Phizzo4real6 жыл бұрын
ohifonlyx33 Yeah, this is the magic Feige has played... The movies aren’t really as interconnected as ppl think. Of course they are not loosely tied as the show, but the appearance of Tony in Homecoming and Cap 3 blew this open. The first two phases were as loosely connected as the shows.
@ohifonlyx336 жыл бұрын
But that's the beauty of it. there's a sense that the MCU is a vast universe, like in the comics and in the real world.... there are lots of threats and lots of heroes and they've all got their own lives and stories, but if something like Thanos happens they'll assemble. And the agents are out there in the shadows working in smaller cases that are actually big threats. Centipede, the Clairvoyant, Inhumans, Hive... I mean Avengers are headline news... but SHIELD is like what happens in Area 51.

absolutely terrible advice to skip episodes in season 1. Whilst I agree this show becomes a lot better as it goes on, season 1 is still good and does a really good job of building rapport within the team and have you care about the team this show is about. So when the winter soldier event happens in the show you care about how the team is torn apart. There aren't any episodes I would skip, even seemingly non essential episodes are referenced later.

if marvels not gonna be bothered. to at least pay lip service to their TV shows, can we at least have As cross over with the Netflix series, at least a cameo, or acknowledged that shield knows wats going on in hills kitchen
@TVJunkie938 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing it's an issue of licensing rights. ABC has the rights to the AoS characters, while Netflix has the rights to the Defenders crew. I can't imagine a crossover is going to happen next year.
@J-Rod-tv4pf8 жыл бұрын
+TVJunkie but they're all under the same marvel/disney house, just like the CW and CBS are owned by WB so that flash/Supergirl crossover was possible

There was an episode in season 3 where they mentioned there is a gang battle going on in New York. Cant remember which one it was though. Would love to more than a brief mention though.

Maybe but I cant remember for sure if it was an agent of something on a news clip. Even still the current shield is not focused very locally so it would have been difficult to have some sort of crossover given the story of Season 3. Plus I am still not sure what is going on in Hells Kitchen. WHAT IS IN THE HOLE?!?!?!?!?!!? lol

Sorry man but this is an awful video with awful advice. Who advocates for and recommends that you watch a TV series yet also says that you can skip episodes? Every show has some episodes that aren't that good or bad seasons but they all pertain to the story, don't talk this guy's advice people please, just watch it or don't. Also, I first tried watching this video as a newbie to the show and I wanted to know what I should know prior into going into the show, like what the backstory information I should know yet you jump into showing characters that are in later seasons... That is awful! Even showing what the cast for season 2 is a spoiler, for any show because you don't know if someone's going to die or leave or whatever. I still can't believe you said skip the awful parts of the first season and just watch it later on... but there's so much that goes on in the first half of Season 1, it sets it up, gives backstory, explains the situations and the different roles. This is not how you make quality videos. For anyone wondering about first half of Season 1, it's honestly not bad at all, yes they may be a bit procedural but there is also a backstory to it, it's not just cookie-cutter episodes, and personally I really enjoyed them.

I'm not sure why the first season gets so much flack. The pilot is one of the best series openers i've ever seen. Plus there's episodes like FZZT and T.R.A.C.K.S which were phenomenal.

22 episodes a season is a big ask... especially if im to start with season one which is apparently the worst season? i'd have to be really committed
@swanpride6 жыл бұрын
Well, for one, Agents of shield always had a conclusion at the end of each season (with a stinger added to it). The main arc of the season is always solved in the end. And later seasons are even split in distinctive "pods". Two, "worst" is really relative. You have to understand that when the show first aired, the expectations towards it were just too high. A lot of the reactors which come on later are all "what is your issue? The show is great" or "this is actually kind of of fun". Three, it is not like you have to watch 22 episodes to get to a good one. Most people consider "T.R.A.C.K.S" the turning point of AoS (which aired in the middle of the season), but there are already pretty good episodes beforehand, just also a few wonky ones (most of it is simply first season pains, with the usual world building troubles). And from episode 16 onwards, it is just smooth sailing. You don't get that much quality out of any other show. Plus, isn't it more fun to see a show getting better and better instead of being frustrated while watching it beating a dead horse for several seasons?

swanpride thanks for the long reply, given your arguement, I think I'll give it a try! Thanks! Yeah I really loved LOST when it came out and watching how quickly it went downhill really sucked

Nah, AoS is more like Babylon 5...it needs some time to find its footing, but once it gets going, it REALLY gets going. This show is entirely unpredictable, which is the highest praise I can give to any show. They are really good in setting something up, painting a big arrow pointing at the thing they have set up, and then add so many other signs that when it actually happens you sit there and be all "damn, I should have seen that coming, how did I miss THAT?". Drop me a line how it went, will you?

@@MisterReginald141 saying AOS gets worse instead of better season by season is like agreeing to this guy in the vid when he said the cgi in flash is betyer than AOS...

Ending, not cancelled. Important difference because all our characters will get (hopefully) a satisfying conclusion and emotional send off that feels well earned and well planned. Still sad though :(

AoS knows how to tell an AMAZING story with a low budget. My dad mentioned that there was a lot of hallways in season 5's first half, but they told the story so well that I did not care at all.

I'm sorry I tried I just can't stand the Sky/Daisy character/actor. I was hoping for a Marvel version of the X-Files not the Inhumans. More so, I find the Daisy and the defector character dynamic insufferable.
@TVJunkie938 жыл бұрын
+Z3ROTH3RT33N Initially I didn't like Chloe Bennet, she just grated on me every time she tried to be peppy and funny, but the actress has since settled into the role. It helps that the character now is completely reinvented from where she started. As for her current arc, I'm willing to see how it concludes before judging.
