Why You Should Watch GENERATOR REX

Honestly Generator Rex is one of the most underrated cartoons full stop. I had such a blast watching it as a kid as well as now where I can acknowledge the more subtle plot points and characterisation. THIS is how you write an action cartoon with a generally darker tone while not making it edgy and still keeping some humour. This is how you develop characters organically and allow the audience to care about them. This is how you build a unique world and make it an integral part of the story. Isn’t to say that it is perfect and there were one or two things which I took slight issue with, but part of that is because they had to fight tooth and nail to get an ending. The art style and animation were great too. The music and score...man Van Kleiss’ theme is so well composed. Generator Rex is basically what I wished that the Ben 10 (another one of my all time favourite shows) sequels were like. A balanced tone with darker moments and comic relief still there, as well as a well implemented story driven structure, character development which makes sense, and a pretty grounded feel despite the sci-fi basis of the show. Though both the original Ben 10 and Gen Rex were made by MOA which explains why both really hit home with me.

In many ways, Much like many other people who (especially recently) have said. Generator Rex was the YuYu Hakusho to Ben 10's Dragon Ball Z. Rex and YuYu were the superiorly written series with lots of love and consistency put into them compared to the more merchandise padded Ben 10 and DBZ who succeeded on that kind of scale. Its fitting, really. GR deserved so much more and then some. Even now, Duncan Rouleau of MOA consistently releases new tidbits about the show's future if it gotten a season 4.

When I was a kid I never watched rex because I thought it looked generic and boring because it reminded me of Ben 10 AF/UA but I watched it a while ago and I regret not watching it as a kid because I loved it. The story was good as well as the characters and the action and music got me excited always.

This analysis is on spot, I agree with all of it. For what I love this show the most is because it's actually *mature* and *real.* It's mature in a way that it's not afraid to show dark and not always pleasant reality, like humans becoming violent in times of fear when faced unusual and unknown, like in "Hunter", or psychological disorders - Breach would be the epitome of that, such a powerful and vulnerable character at the same time. Or even unpleasant deaths on-screen - like how the boat driver died in "Dark Passage". And it's real in a way that the events in the show can definitely take place in real life. Come on, there are a lot of people who would want to abuse the power of nanites for sure. Moreover, there's a possibility that something similar WILL take place in real life once we invented those kind of machines. But what also slaps in the show is Rex himself. I love that the main protagonist is not completely innocent. It's been shown that in his "past lives" he did some questionable things. And that makes him more likeable, because he feels more like a human being, and humans make mistakes all the time, we're not perfect nor we will ever be. And the thing that makes him an amazing character is that he works on his mistakes. Should I even start about one-of-the-most-dangerous-people-but-an-amazing-papa-figure, one and only agent Six, and professional yet caring doctor Holiday? I love their dinamic. And all characters, in fact, are so original and powerful in their own way. A proper character developing and great explanation of the plot make an amazing show. And Generator Rex has both. Such a shame that it's so underrated. It deserved way better. Watch Generator Rex. I recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who's even remotely into science fiction and action-adventure.

I've always wondered why I was so bothered by Ben in the first 2 seasons of Alien Force. OG Ben and AE Ben felt like two completely different characters. After watching this video, it seems (to me at least) that the characterization of Rex felt more in tune with what Ben should've been at the beginning of Alien Force.

I disagree. Ben's maturity and growth from the first two seasons of Alien Force is what made Ben grow as a character, and what made the show great in the first place. It showed us that he isn't a 10-year-old kid anymore, and actually assessed the situations he, Gwen and Kevin got into (most of the time) instead of dialing for bigger and brawnier aliens every single damn time. Season 3 ruined that by making him like his 10-year-old self which basically goes against all of his growth throughout the seasons before. Not to say he didn't retain some of that immaturity through the past seasons, it was at least kept to a minimum.

@@doomer3257 Like you I do not believe that the answer is to revert to 10 year old Ben’s personality and regress his character. But Ben is literally 15 in Alien Force and frankly doesn’t feel like himself without a degree of cockiness and rebellious nature. He felt too serious and obedient to the point of feeling like a completely different character. It’s fine for him to be mature but he can be cocky at the same time - like Spider-Man, who maintains his bravado most of the time but gets serious when he needs to. Ben’s Alien Force personality would very much suit a Ben in his 20s or else Ben 10,000 who is near of their hero’s journey. As a teenager though, Ben still has things to learn

What an underrated gem. Despite lacking popularity, it's actually better than Ben 10 in just about every way: Character building, character arcs, animation, art style, soundtrack, villains, story, power level consistency, lore consistency, and most importantly: Main character consistency. Generator Rex knocked it all out of the park!

I really really really wanted to set this video to the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance soundtrack and throw in a bunch of references to stuff in it like "Nanomachines, son" or how Biowolf sounds almost exactly like Blade Wolf, but once I went with the Orange music I discovered that the Revengeance stuff would clash too much with the punk rock sound so I ended up just keeping the punk rock all the way through. Maybe some other time.

I still love Ben 10 I really do but im starting to think that maybe Ben 10 would have been better with Man of Action rather than giving the project to Dwayne Mcduffie he made some incredible work but it just didnt fit with Ben 10 they changed it so much that Ben 10 Alien Force didnt feel like the same show that it was it felt more DC which isnt bad but that was never what Ben 10 is supposed to be which is why sometimes I kinda envy Generator Rex for being so good and I wanted Ben 10 to be given that same treatment to be as Badass and as epic as that underrated show Also I dont think its the shows fault for being inconsistent I blame the network for interfering with the production of Ben 10 I know what Man of Action is capable of and if they were given the chance maybe they would have made better sequels to Ben 10 Classic than what we got

Yes! Exactly! I love this show so much! I think I started watching it around the time it came out as a kid myself. I was drawn in from the starting episode, and that love grew as I rewatched it in my late teens! It is so absolutely underrated! The show is funny, has good plots, a great overarching story, humanizes the "bad" people like EVOs, Van Kleiss, White Knight, Caesar, etc...and I absolutely agree! Rex is the best reason (among many) to get into the show! His past is interesting, he learns a lot about himself while also being pretty confident, and he's willing to help anyone who needs it. Thanks for sharing this video! I miss this show.

Is Ben 10 reboot next? It got pretty good omnitricked onwards. Heck it has a fair bit of dark themes in it especially innervation onwards. Also Glitch is such a good underrated character that seriously got and Still gets mistreated by the creators and some fans. I mean Glitch's origin has dark themes in it and Glitch's personality is a good bounce between a normal kid and the prodigy trope(it's a shame we don't get to see it as much as we could have) and although I wish he could have stayed in his Glitch Ben form his ability to assimilate DNA from the omnitrix and combining it with tech is cool(to bad they had him stay as a car. Seriously Glitch is considered to be Ben's bother stop treating him like that guys!!) And we even see he can still use the aliens abilities (such as heatblast 's fire) oh and the designs for all his forms look good(Glitch Ben is still my favorite). Sorry about the rant involving Glitch Tennyson. Oh and I really wish we got more of frightwig and Gwen's freindship (also they really should have gave frightwig a new outfit after her first episode. It works for a swim suit but not an everyday outfit for a freaking child)

I've watched ALL the whole original Generator Rex series. If there was a 4th season with 20 more episodes to see my unique ideas and how we could see a definitive finale: They wouldn't have all of the main villains escape curing if they weren't going to utilize them for any possible futures pretty much. Having Rex deal with The Pack, Consortium, and new non-EVO super villains could fit it. This definitive finale should end with a Ben 10 cameo connected to the last arc of Omniverse where Rex's world finally merges with Ben's as a result of the Multiverse shenanigans that happened in the finale. Nanites will always exist forever and for years. They still left it open ending, that there are still possible future battles, if the Consortium got away, who knows what VK would do next? But all and all I felt we got closure. I do wonder what Breach did with VK, and what motives were? Did she just sacrifice her one chance of being cured in order that VK isn't cured, talk about vendective. Did she take him to her world, so she can just torture for ever? Or maybe she actually took pity and had sympathy for him, Rex's sympathy for her affected her, so that decided to show sympathy for VK?

@@Lavapasta I heard the show wasn’t cancelled, but Man of Action quickly ended the show out of fear of it being cancelled by CN. The main theory is with the toys not selling as well as Ben 10’s and that’s these action cartoon’s main source of revenue. One of the writers on Twitter confirmed himself they had a lot more planned for the character, but just never got to.

Yeah, some of the stuff from that video hasn't aged well (the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic wasn't as controlled as I claimed that pandemics would be in general), but for now I'm still keeping the video up so that you can compare it with this new Generator Rex video and see how much I've improved since then.

I like your review but no offense but how is Ben 10 alien force pretentious? Like I never got that when rewatching it. While I do agree alien force isn't perfect and ben personality does flip flop when it got to the 3rd season but it wasn't prententious.

Scenes like the Alien Force characters doing a big show of walking in to follow Ben as he simply walks down the middle of a street in the DNAlien arc finale, Ben yelling "Azmuth, help me!" in the rain, Ben being lifted into the air by his soccer team in the very first episode, or every other time the series puts Ben on a pedestal just tends to come across as pretentious to me. I probably didn't think much of it when I watched the show as a teenager, but now I see it as though it's trying too hard to make Ben look like a hero without putting in the character work to effectively challenge him.

I may be late, but still, I loved this cartoon show since I was a kid back in 2010. I always thought the idea of a world at war on evos who are monsters and a teenager who has the ability to make mecha weapons out of his body is awesome as a young boy. I adore Rex's weapons that he has, like his big jetpack, his two big fits, and his huge canon. My favorite character from this show is Dr. Holiday, I thought she was so nice, intelligent and so hot, yea, I definitely had a huge secret crush on Dr. Holiday as a young boy/kid. This cartoon is also a reminder that a Kids cartoon show like Generator Rex can be complex, unique, dark, heavily action pack, interesting and clever for Kids, while still being a appealing cartoon show for adults. I am very thankful for the Man of Action for respecting his younger audience/kids intelligence.

its honestly really refreshing seeing a (half) Mexican character being the main character of a show with badass powers that isnt a stereotype, accompanied by amazing animation, world building, but most of all, just being well written and relatable, this show was ahead of its time fr that being said i wouldnt mind GR getting rebooted if it where to come back, it was great but it def had more than a handful of episodes felt so out of place, and it felt rushed in some cases... i mean the framework is already there, it be cool to expand and improve on this show with a proper reboot (unlike ben 10 with its dozen spinoffs) and make the show on par with avatar or other critically acclaimed animated shows

Generator Rex is an example of growing with your audience, it understood how to take things kids between the ages of 12-15 might be feeling and presents it in a digestable format that makes it both fun an entertaining. Ben Ten on the other hand is one of those shows where you feel like you still want to be just a kid. But at times are forced to grow up as the situation demands, which I think kids between 10-14 cab understand and relate too. Just like how in Yu-Gi-Oh GX, Jaiden is, at least in my opinion, the best of both Ben Ten and Generator Rex from a character standpoint. When you're first introduced to Jaiden Yuki, you get the feeling of a zealous, and cocky high school student who wants to be recognized by everyone for his talent. But along the way, we see Jaiden deal with other characters, and even his own past. During the Dark World Arc we even see him get crippled (metaphorically) and see him rise back out of it. Anime and Cartoons are just some of the best formats imaginable when it comes to presenting different themes.

A little constructive criticism: this would be a great video, IF you had left out the nonsensical political comparison of hunter Cain. You could have mentioned what made him awesome without the inaccurate dissing of conservatives. If anything, he is more like BLm or antifa while Rex shows what a conservative’s perspective is towards false accusations from leftists when they are just trying to help.

The best shows in this universe are generator rex and og ben 10. 3rd and 4th place goes to alien force and ultimate alien. 5th omniverse. And I know the reboot isnt technically canon but it friking sucks. Haven't see the secret saturdays so i didnt rank it. It's on my to do list of shows.

@Lavapasta Still it's not better than ben 10 just because he has good art style and animation. Ben 10's concept is way unique and interesting. If I wanna watch something with good story and animation One piece is for me. It is much better than generator rex and ben 10. Generator Rex is nothing scary compared to shows like demon slayer and it might not have best story compared to other anime but it can give generator rex art style and animation run for it's money. You know if you want something so deep, anime does better job than western animation. It's all people's opinion on which series they love. I can't belive some people want to talk about plot and shit all. Let people enjoy what they like don't try to disect the thing. I wanna say no matter how western animation cartoons are good but they are still gonna be kid friendly cause it's not like anime where there are good shounen anime.

Yeah, it really kills the universal appeal of Hunter Cain. He could be left or right-wing allegorically. The point is that he is a well-intentioned man (at first) but is misguided by his hatred for an entire group rather than just the “bad ones” as shown by his reactions to Rex. Opening meeting: he wouldn’t be wrong if his aggression was directed at the bug evo he destroyed. But he took his rage out on Rex as well.
