Taking a closer look at the damage from 2-step (launch control). The 2-step features an Ignition cut to hold RPMs but without fuel being cut, combustion can occur in the exhaust causing harm to your engine and other components. This is the result of 2-stepping for fun.

My dude, having that knowledge to know something was wrong with the engine from how it sounded, kudos to you. Having that Extended knowledge to be able to tear down and rebuild your engine after you damage it, effing PRICELESS. Most people 2-stepping their cars will blow up their cars trying to be like everyone else, if VAG wanted your car to 2-step it would've been an option on your model, it's not there for a reason. Adding something extra to your car sometimes requires more than just an I saw Bobby do it in his car, YMMV, Lol, Love the Vid and your blown motor still looks cleaner than mine, Lol.

Respectfully, I disagree. The whole “if the manufacturer wanted your car to do this, then it would be stock feature/option” is extremely naive. If people(especially the car community) lived like that/by that saying, then we wouldn’t have 1000hp 4 cylinders, or really any high horsepower performance street/drag cars. Do you think manufacturers like Ford, Chevy, and Dodge intended on people slapping big ass turbos and superchargers on their cars and testing the limits of their motors, and then independent people and companies making their products better? Nah probably not. But because people did, we now have things like the hellcat, demon, etc. As for VAG, if they didn’t want people to mod their cars, then they wouldn’t make the ME7 and 7.5 so easy to crack and tune. Not to mention make some pretty bitchin cars/engines🤷‍♂️

2 step is a novelty, do it occasionally, for a short time. Holding it on the 2 step until things glow will definitely cause damage. It's one of those "do it at your own risk" things. Same thing goes for 2 or 3 minute burnouts, without air moving across the radiator and engine bay, things glow. When they glow, they go. Good explanation, hope people watch this and think twice about holding the 2 step too long. Its not as hard on a built engine, but those engines also require much more maintenance in general.

It's unfortunate to see that damage... this is what happens when you have tunable 2-Step and you don't understand quite what's going on. I wouldn't be shocked if you had burnt valves as well. If the valve are not burnt then they are some hella strong valves. Anytime Fuel explodes instead of burning you're going to have problems unless everything is built to withstand it valvetrain Springs retainers cams... everything. Mad props on putting this on KZbin I'm sure there's plenty of people hating. I hope my comment doesn't come off as giving you a hard time because that's not what it's meant to be. Maybe some people can learn from this and not go crazy aggressive on there 2-Step. You either want a little bit of popping out the exhaust or all the popping to happen in the exhaust and not when the exhaust valve is open... it's all about timing putting a spark plug in the exhaust. That will also save your turbo.
@viperfukgoogplus386
@viperfukgoogplus386 Жыл бұрын
Lubrication is absolutely the cause... When you two-step your car and you're cutting out the ignition but the fuel is still flowing so you're literally dumping fuel into the motor, you are sending out the oil, washing down your cylinders, destroying your rings, and destroying every other moving part in the motor. Combustion in the exhaust manifold can also cause valves to open at the incorrect times from the pressure on the wrong end of the valve. It can open the valve pushing the valve into the piston if you have an interference motor.

I would have to put this on oil. It could have been over heating and not lubricating efficiently. As stated the exhaust side was the most damaged and as it was more then likely the hottest side the oil would quickly overheat when it reached that side. Another would be how the oil flows in that engine and if it's possible that oil would stay in the exhaust side for a long period or longer then the intake side.

V-dub in Paradise is mostly correct. But technically I have seen race cars with no wastegate. Just a badass fuel system, a massive front mount intercooler, and methanol injection. It ran all the boost the turbo can run. For this to work properly though the turbo has to be perfectly sized for the motor and cylinder heads. And these are generally drag cars so heat is not as much of an issue.

Fuel cut is pointless on a turbo car, because the idea of two step is to create boost. Ignition cut will ignite fuel in the exaust manifold causing the turbo to spool up so you can launch on boost. Fuel cut is used as a rev limiter to launch N/A cars. Modern golf R's GTI's etc use ignition cut launch control (aka 2 step) to get boost up to launch. If you used fuel cut 2 step on a turbo car it would not build boost and bog on take off. The damage to your top end would not have came from using 2 step but using 2 step with the problem would have caused the damage. How this helps mate 👍
