Have owned Dobermans for decades. The last few have been from Dobie rescue organizations. Absolutely the smartest and very easy to train-even a rescue once they have adjusted to their new home. The Dobie I have now rested his head on my shoulder for the 2 hour drive to his new home-now a big lapdog.

Our rescue Dobe Pemmt Lane is by far THEE easiest dog I have ever trained. My husband and I have had 5 dogs over 30 years. All adult rescues and all large breeds. Penny is our 2nd dobe. I was STUNNED by how quickly she learned new commands. She also obeys hand signals without ever being trained on them. I have to say that I really like that a lot of people are afraid of Dobes. Our girl is sweet, funny and silly but also a protector. That's comforting because we we live in a medium crime neighborhood.

The only person that my male dobe has had problems with was my grandson when he was about 3 or 4. He did attack him, took him to the ground but my dog was in front of me and my grandson came running by. I think he was protecting me. He does get nervous around kids so we just put him in his room until their gone. He does love babies though.

Thankfully my current Doberman didn't go through the biting stage. I got her at 4 months and she was starved and sick from the ignorant person who was trying to breed Dobermans. The woman knew next to nothing about the breed and just locked mother and puppies in a 10 x 8 kennel and just threw a little food at them. My dog is the only puppy that survived. Even the mother died. I sent the local veterinarian to her house. He called the ASPCA. It was too late for the dogs I couldn't get. My girl is now a 10 year old healthy Doberman.

She was around people all the time outside of the yard on leash and was very well behaved around everyone, she was just very protective of the back yard. My point is you never know when they will bite…..

quote: Dogs can be trained to recognize and respond to shapes and words. They have the mental capacity of a human 2- to 3-year-old, so they can learn simple word recognition. Learning the first word is easy, but subsequent words are more difficult for the dog to learn. Dogs can also learn logos or symbols that can control their behavior even when the owner is not physically present...just saying and every dog is different...

Why delete my comment ? ... I didn't tell any lies ... DCM non original doberman temperaments all stem from breeders being irresponsible and putting money and or titles over what's best for the breed. How does a breed regress from being the mascot of the US marines to large % of individuals being unable / unwilling to protect their family ? For those who want a working doberman it's becoming increasingly hard to source because of wanton breeding practices . This issue shouldn't be ignored and smile/laughed at ... and then people tell lies saying the breed is PROTECTIVE and FEARLESS while every year its becoming less so. Then they are additional lies about why its no longer used in military and police applications. The real reason is dobermans as a vast majority no longer have the drives and capability. If you love the breed Why not be honest and work to have its working ability improve to what it once was ?

Let's give some credit to Doberman owners. People who make an educated decision to own a Doberman are well aware of the strength, power and negative potential of this breed. They are well aware that owning a doberman does require a substantial commitment of time to train and socialize their pet. This is not just a Cocker Spaniel or a cat that just exists in your house. A Doberman needs to be a hobby that you love to interact with. The time you put in will be returned to you ten fold. If you don't recognize this commitment....find another breed.
@DobermanPlanet

True! People should definitely do their research before signing up to take on a Doberman. They require a lot of time and effort, but it pays off ten fold - like you said!
@sskl9167
@sskl9167 4 ай бұрын
Absolutely. It is a huge responsibility owning one. They might be as goofy as one can get but in the same time they are strong and visually intimidating dogs. Unfortunately the social stigma around the breed is so big (we live in Europe), I cannot imagine letting my dog play leash free in public area and not because he would do anything but because someone would make a scene just because he is a dobie. People avoid us even when I walk my boy on the street. It is bad but also good at the same time. Maybe more good than bad. 😂 Also, lets not forget that you should be financially prepared because for a dog this big vet bills are not small, too, and being able to provide diverse quality food in large quantities because these dogs are picky eaters and do need to eat a lot daily (at least in my personal experience).

I’m not scared of Dobermans because two I met taught me there’s nothing to fear. I met a friend’s Rottweiler, the first I’ve ever met, and Lucky was the sweetest and loved my lap. As a kid scared of dogs a poodle and a runt German Shepherd taught me not to be scared of dogs. And it was two grown Pit Bulls and a Pit Bull puppy taught me not to be afraid of them and I had a Pit Bull for a couple months. She was just too strong for me physically but she was a sweetheart and she finished my grief counciling a shelter Pitty started after my beloved Chihuahua passed in 2018. Cats taught me not to be scared of them and I’m a cat owner for 44 years. Animals are amazing teachers.

The Title of this video is kinda clickbait. As nice as these dogs are they are still on many State's "Banned" lists for a reason. As a Doberman owner myself, one reason why I got one is for personal protection for my Family and our home. So I will say this. If you break into our home? Well, I will just quote the sign we have on our front door, says it all. "This home is protected by the Good Lord and a Doberman Pinscher, If your here to do harm to us or this home you might meet them both". You should be VERY afraid of a Doberman protecting its family and home.

I thought he would be more bonded with me because I spend more time with him but he does actually get the same level of excitement and affection when he sees both of us. Also when on a walk if one of us is walking slower and leaves behind he always turns around and multiple times checks to make sure we are ok and still coming. Dobie definitely loves a lot everyone in his family.

Agreed. I’ve had both Dobermans and pitties. Love both breeds. Actually had both at the same time until my latest Dover boy passed. I think the stats here are deceptive because there are FAR more pitties in the US than there are Dobermans. Hence, higher bite numbers recorded by pitties.

Idk what kind of breeding or upbringing the dog classified as pitbull are having but I've never had a bit incident with any of my pitbull or Doberman. All my dogs have been unfixed females without a single escape, pregnancy scare, or aggression issue. Previously had one pitbull and Doberman before the pitbull passed in her sleep at nearly 12 years. A year passed before I got a second Doberman which is actually on one of these videos. I've more recently got another pitbull to accompany the two Doberman.

To flip this around, our Doberman was highly tuned to anyone around her that was afraid of her. If someone just walked up to her on the street with confidence and no fear, she was docile and friendly. But if someone was afraid, she would sense it and it put her totally in defensive mode (she was trained for protection). I started paying attention to people as they approached her and if it looked like they were afraid, I would just take her away from that person.
