For me the main disadvantage of the Japanese Ice press is the price. Those, as you say, can be very pricy and if you make more than 1 drink they become impractical. So yes, if I get it as a present it will be great, but personally I do not think it is worth the expense. Thank you for the really nice review. Cheers!

And what surprising how in almost 10 years Japanese Ice press barely went down in price... Even though it's so easy to make clear ice spheres in your home freezer. Presentation is not worth it that much

I think the advantages of the press are the on-demand shaping of the ice and the fact that they make a sight to behold on the bar, so to keep customers entertained (supposing you keep it warm, of course). Also, provided you have to make a lot of different shapes, there are presses that, for a fraction more, will offer a wide variety of molds, making it so you don't have to calculate how much ice of every single shape you'll have to keep refrigerated. At their price, however, I'd design one myself, buy the metal (I think that copper is a good choice, just remember to plate it with pure Gold to avoid tarnishing) and pay a EDM company to cut the stuff.

5:18 - Great insight, but tap water will ABSOLUTLEY make crystal clear ice. I do it nearly every night in my freezer (round-ice-device and Coleman-cooler style). I DO think that it has to do with the type of tap water indigenous to you though. I believe some tap waters will process more clearly than others, and you have to experiment with your particular water and process - but it does work - 100% :)

The larger spehere looks a lot better in the glass.I agree with you on the cheaper sphere maker being better. There's a British company that makes a press with interchangeable dies for spheres, hearts, stars, diamonds and snowmen...damn thing costs $1,000. That's money better spend on Absinthe, or whatever your favourite spirit is, as far as I'm concerned.

I always get frustrated when I hear people talk about this and they bring up bubbles or the cheaper freezer options. First of all I pay 170.00 in aluminum cost to make 1 ice press. Then I have to purchase stainless 316l or 303 rods and ceramic or acetal bushings. After turning them on a lathes they have to be put on a mill and drilled and tapped for bushings and handles engraving etc. Now You have to get it anodized. If I literally sold one for the cost of materials and supplies. It would be around 200.00. to 230.00 depending on ice ball size. Now figuring you have all the saws time, cnc machine time, etc. We have about 50 to 100 dollars in gross profit that gets taxed don't forget. Of course I didn't mention a drip pan and packaging but you get the idea. You showed in your video the ice press working but used too large of ice. The means a lot of heat was drawn from the press. This is why manufacturers like myself use a specific size cup for freezing water. One of my presses could make 3 balls before needing warm water on the press. You are also getting entertainment out of the whole process which makes getting your drink more fun. The cooling ball chest things take up most of your freezer in a normal freezer. However with the correct temperature you can freeze water that was boiled or distilled and it will be pretty clear. The chest system when not in use looks tacky sitting on a bar. The Ice press looks professional and I have heard with the right logo and look. People will ask for a whiskey just to see it work. The fact that you don't like the size of ball is silly. You can get different size ball presses. We manufacture many custom shapes for ice not just ball shapes or diamond. We can even do company logos. But all of this is silly anyway. Most people who drink whiskey eventually stop using ice as they develop a pallet for it.. I mean why ruin all the flavor with water right. also we are making them around 500.00 dollars. Without accessories

What i don't get is that you say to only use filtered water if you want clear ice, but i've seen others say you can get clear ice with tap water. you as well as others use the same method and get the same results so i don't know what you do that works for clear ice but only get those results with filtered water while other get those same results but also works with tap water.

I just bought a ice press for 115 bucks and it makes just over 2" spheres. I also use my clear block maker that produces a block that can make 100 2.5 cubes with. So I just chop down the big block and use pre chopped cubes in the press. If you want to make a lot of spheres you will need hot water to reheat the press after each use.

I think that the idea of taking a block of ice that takes 24 to 36 hours to make .. which means lots of Electricity .. just so you can make a couple custom-shaped ice "cubes" while losing a bunch of otherwise perfectly good drinking water that runs off the mold, ... is Wasteful and Mindless.
@mukeshasthana29413 жыл бұрын
The main impression on the customer is applied when he/she gets his/her cocktail. When someone sees it that there is a spherical ice floating in the glass it feels so relaxing. So whether the Japanese Ice Maker is a real search for getting the first impression but the Spherical Ice Mold will be more convenient for the bartender itself...... 😀🧊🧊🍻🍻

So true, thank you womxn/man/they/them/+. The only thing I would say is that you missed a few key pronouns and its quite standard to include they/them. And to be safe I would also include "+" to signify all of the marginalised groups which are not mentioned and yet you do not want to specifically exclude. Additionally, to stop the harmful perpetuated patriarchal gender stereotypes of "men" first, I would caution you from listing masculine pronouns first. Heads up. Have a nice flarking day :)
