All great points Isabelle. Confession: I sold my one and only Birkin because it was too recognizable. It made me a bit anxious that many people were staring at the bag wherever I went. The leather is so shiny and the silver and twill complements the sleek leather. Excellent choice. 7k is really not bad considering the quality of the Birkin and it’s resale value. I would definitely buy it if I had the house and car (eg., Mercedes, Range Rover…car ) first. As long as those priorities are in order then no problem. I drive a Toyota Rav 4 and I think I would look awkward carrying a birkin driving a rav 4 and living in a cheap apartment. Lol but we all have to start somewhere. Btw, You’re so cute.

This was really good. I don’t like the Birkin for most of the reasons that you mentioned. At some point many luxury brands have done their interpretation of it and I have found some of those much prettier and more functional. My favourites are the Diorever and the Prada Galleria.

I just found you on KZbin and I think you are great ! So nicely and balanced discussion!! All valid points! I did consider the 25 but the whole rigmarole courting the SA etc is not for me ! I am very friendly and like people but I find the entire process ridiculous!! One of my friends had a has a grey Birkin Epsom leather with gold hardware and it’s gorgeous, somehow transcending the not so adventurous design !!

The B30 is an awesome size… I think it can transition well into night time depending on the color… would I wear it to a fancy dinner.. probably not… but I think it’s the perfect in between size… it fits quite a lot without getting too heavy…. But if you’re looking for a tote, then the 35 may indeed be best for you! I hope you get your dream bag soon 🤗

Excellent video! I my question is: whether you purchase from the boutique or from the resale market, the price will end of being about the same. I mean to get one from the boutique I would have to buy the bag plus buy other things that equal to or greater than the bag and then on the resale mkt it’s just double the price of the bag with not extra stuff bought. I really struggle with making myself find other things to buy when I just want the bag in reality, and then feeling as if I have to beg for a possible offer. Now I would rather spend big dollars on a Hermes bag as opposed to a CF . It bothers me to spend that kind of money on a CF when I know just a few years ago it was half the price!

True on the price from boutique or the resale market so for someone who doesn't like much else from Hermes, it will make total sense to consider the resale market. I actually love many things from Hermes (I actually think it is probably the most well-rounded luxury brand with many types of amazing quality items like homeware) so I don't have a problem with buying other items which is lucky I guess😅 Also agree on the price of CF, I don't think I will be adding any more.. the one beige clair CF will probably be it for me😆 Thanks for sharing your thoughts Melanie!

My Coach Swagger 27 is a gorgeous alternative. And I sure didn’t pay the same for it lol. It has a Birkin-style look but has a removable shoulder strap and a zip-close with security snap. It is a beautiful leather, and I use it as an everyday bag a lot. I didn’t originally buy it because of its inspired look, but I realize it is now (eight years later).

My beige Birkin 35 is so heavy but it’s the right size for me so I will put up with it. It’s a Birkin, it’s a status symbol. I will carry it for what it represents! I was also able to attach a shoulder strap by referring to other KZbinrs and Instagrammers. So the shoulder strap issue is cleared which also alleviates the problem of heavy weight. And I have also decorated my B with twillies, and 3 rodeos to make it look cute and fun! But I do admit that because of these cons, I feel like one B is enough for satisfying my needs. I have other bags that are more practical and yet luxurious and elegant such as a red Kelly, a pink LV cappucenes, a pink Chanel coco handle, and a pink Fendi peakaboo. But if I were ever able to encounter a B in rose Sakura or rose confetti etc. which are my dream colors, at at a reasonable price, I may go for it. The chances are low but it may be fun to just hunt for one in my spare time. Anyway I enjoyed your video! Thanks!

Even though Chanel has raised prices - I still love Chanel flaps. When you think about how much you have to spend before to even be offered a bag you would spend more than buying a Chanel classic. A Birkin has no appeal to me at all - totally agree with all the points you made.

This is me to a T! I'm not a fan bashing brands because of their business tactics, but for me nothing beats a classic flap! The versatility, the colours, the different leathers, it's SO iconic....a Birkin 25 is underwhelming, when I tried in store the handle was an absolute deal breaker, what's the point in buying a bag (let alone the pre-spend) to get offered a bag you can ONLY really hold by hand? Very cumbersome imo! And the 30 for petite girls has an oversized look and it looked way too bulky on me. In terms of H bags, for me Kelly is much nicer and more versatile ♥️

I was genuinely disappointed with the B25 when I held it. While I like small bags, not having a strap made it feel really tiny and ridiculous in my hand. Great points on the Birkin’s flaws but it occurred to me that most of the issues with the bag relate to actual comfort in every day use, practicality type problems and so forth, yet I imagine the Birkin as not really intended to be a workhorse for the professional woman (maybe for an Amal Clooney type professional!) but rather for a woman who jets off to events, meet ups etc (thinking of Kate Middleton type but not necessarily her in particular) I believe lifestyle plays important factor with certain luxury bags especially the Birkin!

Another way to get a Birkin from a store is to try typical bougie European vacation spots like St. Moritz, Capri etc. I got myself a black togo B30 without any purchase history with Hermes. Just having a good ability to read people (the SA) and being friendly and engaging without being annoying or too pushy go A LONG way in those "buying on the spot" locations :).

This is probably the most honest review of a Birkin I've ever seen. I agree with your points: it's a boring bag. However, what appeals to me it's its simplicity and durability. I would love to purchase a bag that doesnt fall apart, that's hard to find these days. I also agree with you about the size, I'm either wearing a tiny crossbody bag or I need a giant tote. The in between size is cute, but not functional. I would buy a birkin, but I will never play the games. It's like capitalism won for real if you've got people begging and spending crazy money just to get a chance to be offered a bag. It's dystopian. I would only get one if I got an appointment at the Paris store, but that's pure luck. The bag is beautiful in my opinion, I think they look simple yet go with everything, but the price and the marketing behind the brand is beyond disgusting. My top no-no is weight; No large size, no chain strap, no thick heavy leather, no excessive studs grommets hardware. I do like top handle smaller bags to force me to to carry by hand not on shoulder (cause of pelvic tilt). An option to carry crossbody is typically my go to. If I want to carry a lot of things I use canvas totes.

The Birkin looks heavy to me. It looks like a work bag but it would be too heavy with a laptop and a notepad. B25 and B30 would be the only two that would be reasonable to carry around without being in a car. The Picotin looks more useful than the Birkin IMO as they are both totes.

I think H is originally designed with relatively tall woman in mind instead of the relatively petite Asian (like me myself :D) so I only hv one B25 and don’t intend to add more, I think B look best at 30 and 35 and on tall casual chic style woman

A birkin mini size 20? Correct me if I am wrong but I thought for Birkins the smallest is 25? Anyhow, great points I have a B30 even though I am only 5’0 taller 😂but I prefer the handles and the comfortable everyday size. For tiny bags I prefer the Chanel minis way more than a Birkin 25 or the imposible to get mini Kelly or kelly20 lol. As per Chanel and Hermes I love both brands but I still prefer classic flaps more ❤

B25 looks tiny in real life and the handles are too small. B30 is ok but quite heavy and I don’t have that many things to fit in. Perhaps a B30 in lighter leather would be good… I prefer my Kelly 28 which’s in between for the size and the handle is easy to get into. That’s why I still havent got a B (have a K and C and other non BKC bags)

I hate to go to the airport with my birkins. It really needs a shoulder strap, not practical for getting in and out of for your ID, boarding pass, etc. I never close mine up, if you do you better hope your cell phone never rings!

I think Berkin is overrated, the major flaw is how it slouches over time that kills the bag vibe for me, plus all these styles are classic made decades ago are not functional due to poor organisation features. The only bag I feel is worth having from Hermes is mini Kelly or Kelly 25 it's a cute evening bag plus you can dress it up or down.

This is a status bag only! Not functional at all. For the current times with work from home, there is no point in this bag. Get a bag that’s more functional and donate the rest to charity. I have a selection of bags but I would be embarrassed to carry this one because of the price point!
