I know if I was on my death bed, I would want to see this. I think this video could be highly beneficial for older patients in hospitals. I've shown this to several doctors and nurses, and gotten great feedback so far. If you know anyone who works with the elderly or hopelessly ill patients, please share this with them. I'd love to hear their feedback. These ideas could fix some of the major issues in our current healthcare system. I also want to give a big thank you to those who support on Patreon! www.patreon.com/AfterSkool

For patiants maybe. But could be a lot less applicable as biological imortality technology is becoming closer. Not even talking about having superhuman bodies. Sooner or later, we will all die. But why not have a bigger lifespan and longest period healthy adulthood?
@Rynergy995 жыл бұрын
Gleb Strelets I feel what you mean. That would be cool though. But If biological immortality becomes a mainstream thing in the future then of course a lot of people will want go on that route. Alan Watts said. We need to make more room for the next generation to come, which I agree so they can bring change and utilize this realm to their greater good. I honestly don’t have a problem with immortality but if people would want to live longer then in that case either they may just be to afraid to face death or they are just holding on to the physical world to the point they don’t wanna leave when there is other life we can experience that could be way better than Earth. I think Earth, it could also get over crowded maybe.
@principleshipcoleoid80955 жыл бұрын
@@Rynergy99 I think that in Elon we Musk (stolen phrase from Burgercrueg)... I mean, Elon Musk would and his companies would probably create a successful colony on Mars at that point. And I think that space habitats and biological immortality would go mainstream at the same time, because real estate would start to become more expensive at when BI started to work in practise as a product. And wealthy nations in which such a thing would go mainstream would probably have even less birth per capita then. P S BI would make bigger part of society want to protect the envorinement. In the begining, even the elites would probably start fighting for ecology, because no one can predict when space habitats will even become practical. Middle class is the next affected.

There's certainly a correlation between traumatic life events and deeper intellectual and existential thoughts. In the same way you don't think about what would happen if your phone was stolen, all the information that could be lost, we don't think of how much our life is worth to us and others, and what it's all really about, until we might lose it. But it's not exactly necessary. Some people think ahead, they see the point and they see through all the bullshit society pushes, putting up distractions from the real meaning of life.

The state of being unnatural is coined by humans. How do we defined something as unnatural if it simply occurs or is created? If we are to mold the environment to our fitting, wouldn’t that be natural evolution of the environment? How is it unnatural to use that knowledge to preserve someone’s life? Personally I see no issue with choosing a natural or morphine based death....

First of all, I absolutely love your artwork and the way you enhance these excellent lectures. As to the subject matter here, I suppose I am one of the fortunate ones who has always accepted the fact that death is inevitable, and have had no fear of it going as far back as when I was a 6 year old and first experienced the death of someone very close to me. As I always tell people "I am not afraid to die, and if it were to happen tomorrow I'd be OK with it, but I am not doing anything to necessarily hasten the process because I also like my life." However, if I were ever to get some kind of terminal diagnosis I would take the quickest, most pain-free path to the end, because if I can't be active and feel good, there is no point in being alive. I have also had the end of life discussion with a parent and a grandparent, so the scenario he talks about around the 5:00 mark is something I've not had to deal with. While those deaths were sad, we in the family did have the "it's OK to go" discussion. I am surprised and dismayed when I hear that people can't or refuse to do that with a loved one who is near death. I've told my family I won't be waiting around to hear that from them, because I already know it's OK, but some people really need to hear that before they let go, and it's cruel to withhold that.
@roman-yt28933 жыл бұрын
Thank you, the sad thing is that there are families, like mine, that are not bad really but can't or didn't talk with me about the fundamental aspects of life. Now I've come to realise that the more I actually inform myself about those topics and the more I dig and think about it the more I accept it and actually see the real value of life and existence. Still I couldn't let go of the fear cause there is still a lot that I would like to do and be but I've at least come to a point where I'm thankful for every day and life itself

I am not scared of death. What I am scared of is dying. The process, I mean. With agonizing gasps and all. Dying with physical pain, unless I am lucky enough to die in my sleep. And what if chronic illness leads me to death? The pain of suffering the illness for years + the last agonizing gasps of death... it is these things that worry me. No amount of philosophy can make you escape this grim (and highly possible) reality. I have seen a person in my family dying after living for years in constant physical pain. The pain tolerance of humans is very weak, I tell you. It takes just one toothache to drive all positive philosophies out of your mind. You then rush for a painkiller, pop it, get relief after about an hour, and then relapse into your life-is-beautiful-and-worth-living philosophy again.

Death is only sad for the living. The dead do not feel sad, we all avoid death to make life for the living less sad. But what is so terrific about life? At best life is equal parts hardship and enjoyment, even though most of us don't experience it as positive as that. Shouldn't we want it to end at some point? Doesn't the idea that all of this trouble will come to an end comfort you? My time probably won't come for many decades, but it's a relief to know that with my last breath there will be a sigh of relief unlike anything I've experienced in life.

disagree with his supposition. You do not loose the wonder of the natural world smply because you become older. In the right envionment it only grows with age.
@johnbenedetto30965 жыл бұрын
You do though even if it’s beyond your choice, the innate curiosity that comes with being a child and not knowing about the world goes away even if you don’t think it has because you become comfortable with life and your surrondings
@idkman094 жыл бұрын
John benedetto is right... you’re stripped of your innocence day by day as a child and eventually innocence is turned into a callice. I believe you’re confusing appreciation with wonder and innocence

I agree with you,you don't have to loose the wonder of the natural world if you don't want to.There are endless things to learn if you want to learn um.But most people give in to social pressure to make that money and be successful and they forget about the things that really matter.

Not just healthy, but mentally young by never becoming too arrogant and thinking you've figured it all out. Older people tend to get too prideful, which is what prevents learning or adapting to new things, not necessarily because their brain has truly decayed or anything. Hence, even in a single body, a "recycling/rebirth" of the mind can still be important.

even if that were possible, should we do it ? because that will inevitably mean we have to stop reproducing, given that your principle applies to everyone. wouldn't that be very self centered and selfish ? robbing someone else of their experience of beautiful life when you, who has lived for a thousand year, have no new pleasure form living. don't you think at some point you will contemplate suicide? would it be more respectful than a natural death ?
