The podcast is still up, the comments are still public and circulating, he's posting freely to popular social media platforms with a very large following. Nobody is restricting his SPEECH. They're restricting his license to practice a clinical discipline with patients precisely bc his speech is so unrestricted. If he can't resist blabbing about his patients' private medical information, then they obviously see him as a liability to a profession where you are not allowed to disclose those things, in order to protect patients. But he's still fully allowed to talk about whatever he wants, and all of his speech about it is very public and reaching millions of people. Free speech doesn't mean freedom from the consequences of that speech. You can't just talk about patients' confidential medical information. JP is supposed to be a professional, and he's being treated like one.

Otherwise there would be no real patient results used when teaching students, you wouldn’t even be allowed to show an X-ray by the standard you’ve just provided. Students get access to patient files during clinical experiences and we also have to sign confidentiality agreements. Textbooks may also seek permission, use examples of patients no longer living, or its directly relevant to what's being discussed. Not just shit talking clients... Same with information shared in a classroom. On a podcast is not acceptable if they can identify themselves as your client.

The example you provided of teaching students is part of HIPAA, you sign in healthcare that your record can be used in teaching in a controlled clinical setting, this doesn't include public discourse. Freedom of speech is a thing in Canada because we need to have the right to criticize our governments, have open dialogue for the purpose of social progress etc. It doesn’t give you the right to divulge personal information about your patients. I am a health worker in Canada. I cannot EVER tell anyone ANYTHING about my patients without their consent! Person Information Protection Act. Health Protection Act. Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. If you are any kind of health Practitioner in Canada, this stuff is in every Professional Development course you will ever take and it’s on your registration exams. Psychologist here. Anyone who is a licensed professional no longer has the privelege of free speech in certain circumstances. It's the responsibility you are AGREE to when you decide to become a licensed psychologist. Ethically speaking, you really should abide by the same rules even if you aren't licensed but have a graduate level education in psychology.

Ok so he's not allowed to say a client is vindictive, even if it's true, and it doesn't matter if the complaint was from a former client or not. what is amusing about this is in section 9b. the next line mischaracterizes and slanders Dr. Peterson. Perhaps College of Psychologists of Ontario can take some of their own advice.

These are to make sure you are using best practice at all times. I'm sure that you wouldn't want a surgeon who hasn't learned anything new since they graduated 20 years ago. The same way a psychologist needs to keep abreast of best practice and dead naming people and refusing to use preferred pronouns goes against best practice. Using your logic it would be fine for him to do that and to do conversion therapy on gay people because that was best practice when he graduated. We should just ignore the part that current research shows that these practices have a high incidence of giving people PTSD and them wanting to unalive themselves because Jordan Peterson deserves his free speech.

I liked Jordan Peterson as a clinical psychologist and aligned with some of his views but always said that he was stepping outside his field of expertise by going more and more into political commentary. He’s just gone further and further off the rails. He said his losing his license was due to comments about trans and so on but it turned out that was a lie and it was for speaking about former clients. Thanks for clearing up the truth.
