I always tell people you can only do so much trying to think and react to everything. You can't consciously do that without it affecting your play, unless you play extremely slow and defensive. My best plays were when I'm not even fully conscious of what I'm doing. I just "feel" it.

Most people just autopilot their conception of Their Own auto-piloting. Great job of explaining and break things down
@TeaquestSagas3 жыл бұрын
That sort of stuff happens in sports too. Just that it's called "Being in the zone" there. Training is when you want to think, but ideally you want to switch your brain off while performing cuz THINKING slows you down. In a way. Like a delay you add to your reaction.

Practice how you play and play how you practice. The same way you do a combo without thinking of the inputs is the same way you should autopilot. There is no real way to show someone how to autopilot

I think this is one of the most counterintuitive and overlooked things for any skill in life ever! Great stuff!! Also, missed a chance to make an Ultra Instinct reference, it's no wonder such a strong form is all about automaticity!! :D

I've actually seen most melee players talk about how important having a good auto pilot is but this is the first ult player. Cus at the end of the day you can't expect to play your A game every match, you just gotta make the level your B and C game better.
@CONJOPI3 жыл бұрын
@@rekt_yer_nan_darding_5788 Exactly, I agree!! I think finding a balance of how much mental energy to use per match and how hard you concentrate (as too much can also be a bad thing like too little) are also very interesting similar topics :D

I completely agree! Training your autopilot conditions you and liberates more things on your mind that you can focus on other things like focusing on the opponent.

You are probably trying to improve too much at once. I think dabuz says this but just pick one to three things to work on each training and then you do them subconsciously.

If you want an idea, I'd love to know how you think about and improve positioning! Do you theorycraft it, run drills? Or is it just about studying VODs and practicing in games?

I agree and I recommend you Glutonny's analysis of Zackray edgeguard. I think It's called "L'edgeguard la plus clean du monde" (The cleanest edgeguard in the world). Despite Abadango being really good It looks like he is bad compared to Zackray at edgeguarding. Not sure if the video has subtitles tho

Auto pilot is another way of saying habits. And habits are repetitive behaviors you do over and over again with less amount of effort. So if you practice a regime over and over again, you can just play the game with your eyes closed. It’d be so easy. But if someone figures out your auto pilot, you’ll be stuck with those habits and end up losing. You’ll do it no matter how aware you are, because habits affect the brain’s functioning. Habits can force you to do things no matter how much you tell yourself no, if your autopilot is strong enough. Auto pilot are habits at the end of the day. The stronger the habit is, the harder it’ll be for you to change it when you need it the most

If you watch top smash players they have a set of specific neutral mixups that they fall back on. Even if an opponent is aware of these they can be hard or unrewarding to punish, so even if they play bad for their standards they can make a top 8.
