@@BudgetMechanicHawaii Hello, i have a question and i think you know the answer. :) About that grinding audio sample from video... Few days ago i was stuck in a mud. I was trying to get out and the car was all in mud. Everywhere.. Brakes, callipers, discs, springs, shocks... I washed it 10 hours later and everything was ok. Next day i started the car and when i startto move slowly i heard EXACTLY that sound from your video for about 20 seconds of driving. Now every time when i sit in the car the same thing happens, few seconds of that sound and than ok. Any idea? Thank you.

Just wanted to add my experience to help anyone trying to diagnose problems. The second noise (the one at 6:36) was similar to the sound we heard from the front brakes of our vehicle. We brought it into the shop to get new brake pads on warranty and the mechanic said that the brake pads were gone. Like, he graded them at the 0 percentage. He said we shouldn't have really been driving on them. The grinding had also damaged the rotors a little bit so the two front rotors were replaced (they had already been resurfaced previously due to a different brake issue so we had to replace this time). Just my experience with the noise and the result. Good luck with your vehicles, folks!

Here is a condition I experienced. 1st off, 47yrs driving, I always do my own brake work. I installed Posi-quiet heavy duty metallic pads because my Sienna was not stopping well with the trailer loads I was pulling across NJ A few months after I finished trailering my brakes were lightly squeaking just rolling. The dust from the metallic pads rusted the caliper traveler pins to my calipers, causing my pads to constantly rub the rotor. I installed new caliper pin kits and POWER STOP Evolution ceramic pads last year. The pads cost $8 than Posi-quiet premium pads. The Evolution pads are designed to replace OEM They exceeded my expectations

@@BudgetMechanicHawaii I finally found the scraping/grinding noise coming from the metal clips that were holding the pads. Installed incorrectly, and they were actually upside down, the metal clip touches the rotor, no wonder why I got the scraping/grinding noise. At first, I thought it was the old rotors/pads but actually, it was the hardware. Nonetheless, I replaced some new rotors & pads, mostly very quiet, day and night different. The only thing now I noticed is when I turn my steering wheel to both left or right sides, I noticed very light "scraping" noise but when I drive straight then it is quiet.
@BudgetMechanicHawaii3 жыл бұрын
Jason Yip possibly still the clips. I OFTEN have to bend or otherwise slightly modify the clips of new hardware to avoid them touching the rotor. When you’re turning, things can flex just enough to tough slightly. Check the rotor for lines where the clips may be occasionally rubbing

Good video! Had a full brake job recently on my mustang and the right rear grinded quite a bit. I removed the pad added some grease and put the whole thing back together and voila no more scraping noises. Amazing what such little things can do. Now today after a long day of bumpy roads and hard driving the front left makes scraping noises at low speeds. I hope it's just the backing plate but if not I'll just repeat the process Ive done to the rear brake

The groaning sound occurring in the morning when first driving the vehicle could be due to the brakes being cold and possibly sticking slightly. As the brakes warm up and are used, the noise may diminish, which could explain why it disappears after driving for a short distance

My car falls under the squeaking category without a doubt. I have drilled and slotted rotors in the front and regular rotors in the back. Rear rotors are brand new with about 1-2 Thousand miles (pads replaced at the same time). The front drilled and slotted rotors are a little older with about 5-6 Thousand miles (In great condition still) with pads I just recently replaced while attempting to diagnose my squeaking issue (around 500 or so miles on the new front pads). I took it to a maintenance crew that works on tractors and farm trucks and they could not figure it out so I took it to a professional shop where they also could not figure out what was causing the squeaking. WHAT I KNOW - I've addressed all the common issues that cause squeaking with no result, They squeak the loudest when coming to stop, they squeak while driving without any use of the brakes however it dose not do this all the time, They do NOT squeak after washing my car but will after 5-10 minutes of driving, I did not hear a single squeak sound after removing, inspecting, and cleaning all four rotors (0 issues found on all brake equipment) but they began to squeak again the next day. I'm not a professional, nor even close to one, but the only think I could think of causing the problem is the large amount of rust buildup in my rear driver side wheel from the rotor and pads that I waited way too long to replace 4 months ago. Could that rust start to accumulate in the rotor after a certain amount of use and is causing the squeak? It seems unlikely but its the only thing I can think of that is causing the problem.

I learned early in my wrenching career, even before I earned my Master Certification that 90% of brake squeak is due to unlubricated metal moving parts touching each other. The ONLY lubricant used in brake parts is silicon grease. Apply it to any metal part that contacts another metal part and your brakes will not squeak. (A brake squeak is a high frequency vibration. That’s all!) As far as “glazing,” easily prevented by scuffing pads or shoes with abrasive pad. AND new disc or fresh drums get the same treatment. Then “set” the braking surfaces by repeated stop and starts…not slamming the brakes, but smooth, aggressive application of the pedal force. The idea is to heat them up…but not too hot! (Former ASE Master Certified, Ford Certified, Porsche Cars North America Certified…now retired and am the laziest man in the universe.)

Lately i got new brake pads (ceramic, Wagner Quickstop ZD1522) and new rotors (Eurorotor 55215) installed on my Chevy Sonic, all was well for a while, until i discovered that, sometimes, when i brake, there's a high pitch squeaking noise (much more high pitched than the audio sample used here). Since it's still on warranty from the garage i got them installed at, i'll go back there to have that checked, because it's NOT normal for new brakes to do that, and i don't remember having this problem with the previous brakes and rotors. Another mechanic who did some work on my car previously, said that it's unlikely to be the calipers, but something with the pads and/or rotors. Maybe the brakes were not properly installed or something. As far as i know, the high pitch squeaking sound seem to happen mostly after i used the car for a while, when the brake pads and/or rotors seem to be warmer, after i braked with it for a couple of stops and traffic lights.
@BudgetMechanicHawaii Жыл бұрын
Those are tough to figure out, but often the high pitch ones are thin metal rubbing on the rotor. Needs visual inspection. Also sanding the pads down might temporarily fix it if it’s a glazing problem

I've got an issue I can't figure out that you may be able to help me on. I bought a used 2008 Prius. It had the original brake pads and shoes, rotors and drums. It would brake fine with no noise. I do thorough maintenance when I buy used cars because hardly anyone else does... and the vehicle is in dire need of maintenance. Anyhow, I bought new rotors and drums, pads, and shoes because the pads and shoes were down to almost nothing and I might as well swap out the rotors and drums if I'm going to get new pads/shoes. I installed everything (I've done this many times on many vehicles) without issues. Now the front right sounds like metal on metal and it's all new parts... a scraping/grinding noise. Most noticeable at low speeds around town when stopping. I pulled everything apart and inspected and I don't see anything that would cause the noise and there isn't excessive wear out of the ordinary. Put it back together... same thing. I don't get it. Maybe the type of pad? The part store had several pads that would fit... I chose semi-metallic. Any insights would be greatly helpful... because the noise is annoying. Great video btw.

I never knew that brakes were sold without those. the scratching was very minimal in my case since I took it to a shop quickly after commenting.

Always use a lower gear when going downhill. That mitigates the brake overheating problem.

Mine were grinding loud as fuuck! I was scared and got them replaced finally. I hadn’t changed the pads/rotors since I got the car 7 years and 71,000 miles ago 😬. Lesson learned.

Videos like these are what young broke people who can’t afford college yet need bc one day a lot of them will go to college and then go work at Firestone or pep boys or Midas or hell even a pets store. People need this when they have a young mind so they can work with it young and start figuring everything out soon. Js it’s good for business.

Hi, my car have a rhythmic sound, friction. Any idea what would make this rhythmic sound?
@teddywalakulombus42712 жыл бұрын
The guide pins can clunk and rattle making you think it’s suspension or steering parts but in reality it’s not suspension or steering or a wheel bearing. Pep boys didn’t even know that one I guess bc they recommended they replace the master cylinder.

My brakes don't grind or squeak at all when i apply them BUT if I come to a complete stop, immediately afterward, it's like I hear a noise as if the body of the car is making a gurgling noise in reaction to stopping. My dealer did a brake job with all the trimmings this past summer.

Whoa…from what area of the car?
@RovingRoy Жыл бұрын
@@BudgetMechanicHawaii the front. It's like it lets out a groan AFTER STOPPING as if it's not happy it had to stop after going a short distance at lower speeds. It makes no noise at all while slowing down, just at complete stops sometimes not always and I hear it at the front of the car. no vibrations either when braking. Its like a groan AFTER stopping as if the body of the car is protesting.
