My youngest dog has some touch sensitivity issues. I was advised by a trainer to just force her by continuing to rub until she stopped protesting, but she very quickly switched from being vocal to nipping us to get us to stop. She couldn't take it. I said no, we're not doing this anymore. I started reconditioning it by rewarding one tolerated stroke with a treat, and building up one stroke at a time. Now we can love on her quite a bit before she gets overstimulated....but I still have to keep in mind that petting is not rewarding to her. I've also found that introducing AIC buttons has really helped her with some frustration issues she's had. I taught her a few basic things and the concept of now, soon, and later. Now if she asks for food before I can feed her, for example, I can tell her "food later" and she understands and doesn't feel like I'm just ignoring her or not getting it.

This is fascinating! I've long suspected my dog has sensory issues.

Hello Alora, thank you very much for your Podcasts. This was excellent but I have a question. I think it was very thoughtful of you saying that when you had a litter of puppies, everyone and one was different can I ask what breed you breed thanks.

Please our sweet Gracie is extremely stressed when riding in a car because of large 18 wheeler trucks. Is there something like Melatonin or L-Theanine you could recommend for her to take occasionally for this to help calm her. She’s 10.3 pounds and a Maltese.
