VFDs can reduce overloading due to their increased efficiency and reduction of inrush current however mileage varies significantly based on the specifics of the application.

Thanks for your reply, I have a centrifugal pump that pump 50% glycol and I'm near the edge of overloading (according to OEM), Can i use VFD to prevent overloading?(Even at cost of a small reduction of the head)

so frustrated, my JET wood lathe's 1/2 hp motor started overheating after I stalled it many many times. I had the capacitor checked( ok), the motor spins freely, but at first it goes to speed then after 1 minute of runnig it ( no load) it slows and the casing gets very very hot!!! What's up, I'm retired on a limited income and trying to start a new hobby but now am on hold due to this lathe issue!!!

I have seen the odd motor that will run fine when cold but as it heats up and everything expands, the internal short connects and causes issues. In your case, it really depends on what caused your motor to stall. Assuming it was due to an overload, it's possible the motor windings have been damaged. Based on just the information you provided, my next step would be to test the motor windings to investigate further: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2rdeo1tqLl4nrMsi=laP4MQKpBPb1bGwt

@@emotorsdirect thanks for that, more info-------> Seems the casing gets very hot in one location! That seems like a sign of the issue, what do you think? ALso any way I can fix myself?

@@emotorsdirect am I able to repair it myself, I do think that that is the problem because the outer shelll gets hot in one area only so I'm thinking that is where the short could be

@@joedivincenzo2099 It could be a few different things. Honestly, I'd need to have a look at it. If the windings are damaged, that's usually fixed by a motor repair shop.

@@emotorsdirect well I have no choice but to take it apart as it just isn't working as is so maybe if I do I can take a few pics or let you know what I see if only out of curiousity, I'm gonna save for a new lathe and probably junk the JET. sob

You forgot bad bearings 😅

Nice addition. If the motor is running "rough" due to bad bearings, it takes more energy to turn the rotor, drawing higher amps which would cause more heat.
