People don't watch tutorials because most of these "tutorials" are just MUAs putting their makeup on. Now THIS is a tutorial. @LunarEleven Жыл бұрын
That's definitely why. It's fun to watch but the novelty wears off when you try it yourself and realize it's nowhere near as easy as experienced people make it look. It's the same with all of the arts. Like it's fun to watch a pro painter show off skills but that just makes you want a Bob Ross to give you "happy little trees" steps you can actually follow. It can be discouraging to try things that look simple and somehow fail at every step 😅

It's so bizarre to hear that tutorials don't do better on KZbin, because that's the only type of video I actually actively search for in the beauty-sphere. There's so much value in tutorials that expand on good basics as far as color theory, technique and product recommendations. Fun, trendy makeup is well and good, but at the end of the day, knowing how to shape brows and liner for your face in particular is always going to work. Hope these videos get a little more traction! ❤
@beautyover6018 Жыл бұрын
True but they don’t get the views that they used to like 10 years ago I can upload a KZbin short video and I can have 1500 views or 1000 views in literally like 30 minutes I upload a long drawn out tutorial explaining everything and I will get under 10 views and it will sit there at 10 views forever! Everyone is into the short videos and the digital creators the ones that make everything look so easy in like 30 seconds or less lol

@@cherub73au I think he's doing that. I don't recall him saying in this tutorial, for example, to use the Patrick Ta palette, it's just what he has on hand. I think it's possible to follow technique with whatever you have as most products have the same color variety, coverage levels, etc. Like eyeshadow palettes for instance, I'm sure most of them have neutral browns, a black for smokey situations, and shimmery colors.

Yes! Most tutorials require intermediate/advanced skills and skip the basics! I didn’t wear makeup for YEARS, and when I became interested again recently, so much had changed. So many of these basics I never learned because the makeup styles at the time just didn’t need them as much.

@hazardsigns Жыл бұрын
A good way to start with a new palette that is overwhelming is to look at either the rows, the columns or the quads. Most modern colour stories are set out with one of these in mind. The easiest example I can think of is Lauren Mae Beauty's recent collaboration with Oden's Eye. She has a cool tone neutral column, a warm tone neutral column, her "pop of colour" column in the middle and then her all shimmer blues column and her blue look column. She specifically laid it out this way with two shadow looks in mind. I know this isn't as helpful with some bigger palettes, anything over 12 shades can be daunting. In those situations, I sometimes find myself playing palette bingo instead 🙈

it's so fascinating to me to get your take on makeup artistry because I'm a classically trained traditional artist and it still amazes me how much they overlap, like you mentioned the way you hold your makeup brush affects how it works, which is the same thing you learn doing oil painting for example. definitely support more of these, well done! ♡
@LunarEleven Жыл бұрын
SAME! This really clicked for me when I saw a contouring video that taught underpainting! I've also felt like I have a transferable knowledge base with products- like how layering primer, foundation, etc follows the "fat over lean" principle. I see so many people reviewing products blaming the makeup for issues that are definitely caused by using, for instance, a water-based product over silicone or (especially) oil-based primer or moisturizer. And we definitely know our way around brushes :) Once you've dealt with cleaning brushes after oil painting, makeup is a cakewalk.

I have a tip! The darker the colour of the shadow you're working with is when you're doing more complex looks with gradients, the smaller the blending brush you want to use. You don't want the gradient colours to blend into each other, you want them to stay separated enough to be (subtly) distinguishable.

I'm not a beginner and I'm far from an expert so I definitely think that there's still a place for tutorials. Very excited to give this a go tomorrow!

Sadly I think the "clean girl" look has kinda killed alot of makeup stuff in general, just throw on BB cream and a rare beauty liquid blush and maybe a halo glow bronzer and you're done, it's not alot to learn. So now it feels like it's just influencers discussing brand releases No offense to girls who like the style, but I kind of want the "clean girl" thing to stop being trendy just so content creators can be creative again. Because I remember in 2016 when smokey looks were in and there were SO many tutorials

I think people have lost interest in tutorials because they can't get the same results. It feels like this video is a one on one, personal tutorial with a pro mua. I would love to see more tutorials about the subtleties of brush angles and pressure, etc. I don't have much eyelid space, so I thought the answer was to get smaller brushes, but I still couldn't get good blending results. I have fairly round eyes and I've realized a couple of things over time. The first is that going beyond my lid/into the crease looks odd on me. Very light colors can work, depending on the look I'm going for, but I usually skip it and keep color on the lid. The second is that I only line my eyes from the halfway point of my lid outward, on the top, and then maybe a third of the way in max on the bottom. It still gives definition but doesn't create the bulging look. Occasionally I break these "rules" if I'm doing something purposely dramatic or a costumey look, but they help most of the time.

Tutorials are always interesting bc skills are always being refined, new tips come up, new styles show up and Masters like you should show us how to apply them

I actually really appreciate tutorials, they helped me discover my lid type and they help me with ways to apply eyeshadow properly so it can be seen. I have hooded lids and never knew why my shadow looked so bleh and why it always creased, I didn't know there were types (LOL I know right..) and I was doing it wrong. Tutorials are amazeballs!

You showing exact angles you're using with your brushes is incredibly helpful! Love tutorials! ❤️

Absolutely do more tutorials! I am always learning from you, and I love the little tips and tricks. I was so happy when you mentioned putting a little primer by the outside corner of your eye to help if it's tearing. The outside corner of my right eye always tears up, and it's so annoying. I am definitely going to try that :) Thanks, Robert!

Please keep making tutorials if you enjoy doing them. I recommend yours to all my friends having makeup issues. Yours are hands down the best and most detailed tutorials I’ve ever found and they were absolute game changers for me! There will always be people seeking advice on better techniques to help them, so why not?

I always appreciate tutorials from honest MUAs like yourself who explain in understandable and patient methods. You’re a master at your craft and you clearly wish to bestow knowledge to others. 🖤

This reminds me so much more of a drawing/fine art tutorial than a typical makeup tutorial because you explain what and why you do certain things. A lot of the make up tutorials I remember watching weren’t as informative, but all the fine art tutorials were! Thank you Robert!

Kind of sucks that people aren't watching tutorials anymore. For those of us who are still learning, the tutorials are everything. I'm pretty new to your channel and when I have questions I just start going through your videos. You are so good at instruction.

Robert Welsh is a makeup genius! At 55, I finally mastered eyeshadow thanks to his expert tutorials. Even smokey eyes look good now! A godsend for mature makeup lovers. Unlike many 50-something KZbinrs with procedure-tightened skin teaching "mature" makeup, Robert's tips actually work for real, natural older skin like mine.

I love the tutorials. With all the tips and tricks out there, it's hard to find someone who takes it back to basics. And since I am basic, that's what I'm looking for. I've only found one other person that I like who does that. So thank you for all your help. 🖤🌙

I feel a personal responsibility to actually watch tutorials because no one watches them. I love them. I would LIVE for a reviewtorial series. I loved this. I loved the way Robert broke down his blending technique in great detail.

Oh Robert, I'm so happy about you making tutorials. I always see your looks for your reaction videos and complain (internally) how you don't teach us how you make them 😭 I really love how authentic you are. F the algorithm, i will be watching all your tutorials 😍

More, more, more of this please!!! That was seriously one of the most helpful eyeshadow tutorials ever. Love the instruction for which brush to use and how to hold it. I always love your eye looks and learning how to do them from you is amazing, you’re a great teacher!❤

That was the most amazing tutorial I have every seen! I finally know what I’ve been doing wrong for 30 years 😂 Please do more of these! I could listen to your voice all day ❤ and the way you explain things is incredible 😮 Thank you so much 🥰

70, learning how to properly put makeup on elegantly. I love color but I have wrinkles which can ruin the final outcome. Please advise how to line full eyelashes that don’t grow in a perfect line like I see on everyone else. Very fair cool neutral skin with (still) black brown hair….if that matters. I would of course LOVE MORE TUTORIALS PLEASE.😎

Maybe, I'm an exception, but I absolutely love and enjoy watching tutorials and could watch you do them all day. Haha. I'm nowhere near at a pro level, & can always use more tips & tricks, especially from an amazing Pro and icon, like yourself. The knowledge you have needs to be shared, so thank you for making these types of videos. ♥️💜

I only wear eyeliner and lipstick but I'm very interested in wearing eyeshadow but I'm so scared of "doing eyeshadow wrong" and being overwhelmed by how many brush, pallete, and primer options are out there, and not wanting to waste money, that I haven't ever used eyeshadow. I think this video might finally push me to do it!!!! I'm excited.

I just want to say I absolutely appreciate the tutorial-type videos! The reactions are fun to watch too and informative, but as someone who's newer to makeup (and whose eyeshadow looks almost exactly like your wrong side if you stopped at the sparkle step), they're super helpful

This is so helpful! With inspiration from you, I've just purchased my first cc toner and can't believe how well it tones down my redness! I bought my first brush set and have been trying to up my eyeshadow game, but it's tricky to see photo tutorials and not know the technique! Your tutorial today was perfect timing and now I'm ready to give it another shot! Thank you for making good make up feel accessible for those of us with average skills!

I really enjoyed this one! And I think it's always a good thing for you to remind us about the hows and whats when it comes to techniques! Sometimes we get in the routine of just buffing out colors on our lids, in a hurry to get to work, etc, and don't take the time to perfect our makeup application! At least I know it happens to me 🤣 so thank you sm Robert for bringing me back! 👏
