All really valid points here, and very well presented

I was just about to leave for a gig when I started listening to this post, and one of the tunes on my playlist was "Autumn Leaves" and I am not yet comfortable really emphasizing the chord tones. So when I heard tip #1, I thought, "Oh no! This tune is not going to go over well!" I listened to the rest pf this post after the gig, which actually went well. On "Autumn Leaves" because I am really familiar with the melody and have a feel for playing lines that embellish it my improv came out OK and areas to work on. All of the tips are great

Really enjoyed this Brent - I really like the way you break down the concepts here. So similar to how we teach over at Sax School. Love these videos!

I liked this video, I guess most of us know by now that guide tones and approach notes are the key but sometimes it is hard to put into practice. Darren Lloyd´s channel named Jazz Etudes has the same approach and many examples. I do not mean to criticize you in any way, I have bought stuff from you and it helped me a lot. Thumbs up.

Brent, Hello from Kansas City, Missouri. Outstanding Video. That Guitar Tone is what I like to call a Lobster Dipped In Butter Tone. Thanks.

@@LearnjazzstandardsI’d love to join your inner circle but honestly, I don’t think I’m ready. I’m new to the guitar and although I take your meaning in “soloing over the same song for half an hour won’t make you better” I think I’m at such a low level that it’s where I need to start. I make really simple mistakes that I can fix on my own with practice (like hitting a G natural in an E7 chord) and I’m working through your Jazz Standards Playbook which I only just now feel ready for. One day. :) 🎸
