Hmmm an actual 747 pilot explained that it's not actually important to use airplane mode, because it doesn't really affect much. It's only better to turn the mode on during flight because, for example, at 30,000 feet you can't reach any signals so you're wasting your phone battery. If they had actually interfered with navigation devices, we wouldn't be allowed to take them on planes at all.
