Hey Buck. I offer sincere thanks and appreciation. You indeed saved yet another small engine today. I watched your video. I then proceeded to take off and clean the carburetor on my pressure washer, which I hadn't used in two years. I cleaned it out, reassembled it, and it started like a champ. It was the first time I've worked on a carburetor. So kudos to you, sir. You're making a difference in the world. Thank you.

Went through fuel system, cleaned (almost everything)....no start. Argggg. Found your video, went back out to the shop and took carb apart again, cleaned the middle plastic jet assembly like you did and Voila!! Started first pull. Thanks!!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I was about to give up on my 6 year old pressure washer when I stumbled upon your video. Instead of buying another one, I convinced myself that it would be easier to just rent one twice a year. Despite being very handy and willing to tackle lengthy projects, this was my 1st attempt at taking a carburetor apart and putting it back together. I was nervous about the placement of the linkage and springs. I took my time and with the help of many pictures as recommended, I was able to correctly assemble it. What a bunch of cheap plastic parts though! I ran the pressure washer today for over 2 hours straight! It runs better than it has in a long time! Way to go!

Thanks for the video. A friend of mine gave me a Craftsman 3100 Gas Pressure Washer. Looks brand new, but it’s missing pieces (Wand, extension & the hose). She said it was only used twice and sat for over a year (probably has ethanol fuel in it). I got it home, changed the oil, spark plug, emptied out the old fuel and put non-ethanol premium gas and it, and it won’t start. Got in the house to come here to find a “how to” remove and clean carburetor’s and your video was the first thing that popped up. I swear technology is amazing. Phone must of heard me cursing the pressure washer while I was in the garage messing with it.

No plastic on mine. I have a ryobi with a honda engine. It was an actual metal carb lol. It did not have much to unscrew then i noticed an area to unscrew the bottom jet which was behind the bowl drain screw. Once I took that out a brass tube fell out with the holes that needed cleaning. Pay attention to the direction that goes back in first. Did not have that fancy wire that you had, but used some very small stripped speaker wire and tunneled through the holes. Sprayed with the carb cleaner, put and all back and bam... I was ready to bring to a small engine mechanic, but this saved me time and money. Thanks Buckwsr.

With the carby cleanout, its best to not force any pins in there like that. Use a brush (plastic or steel wire) and allow the smaller bristles to go into the jets (cabry holes) and clean them out. If you increase the size of the hole (jet) it will mess the fuel/air mixture up and have it running worse and using more fuel
@lawman5511 Жыл бұрын
You can prevent the winter storage gum up. Run it dry and introduce ATF into the carb by whatever method works best. Next time, put gas in the tank. It may run rough until the ATF burns off, but it works.

The best thing anyone can do for small engines like this is to install a quarter turn fuel shut off valve on the gas line and turn off the valve when done and allow the engine to shut down by running it out of fuel. The carb has no fuel to gum it up and I have never had an issue when starting it for the first time in the season. Works great for gas generators as well because they are not used often enough. Good video on how to clean up the carb when needed though.

I picked up 2 craftsman pressure washers from Lowes yesterday for $25 each being sold on clearance as "parts only" on the tag, both looked basically brand new and the guys at the store said they were defective from the factory. I cleaned both carbs and they run perfectly now. I want to say people bought them and used bad gas, returned them for not starting then Lowes said screw it and sold them for cheap.
@Buckwsr Жыл бұрын
Another explanation could be that unscrupulous people buy machines, do the one job they need them for, and then return them to the store. Either way, you have scored big! Great job getting them running again. You can now list them for sale on Marketplace and make yourself some money!

What about starter fluid before taking it off but I know where you are coming from.The black plastic of death. They really need come up with a aluminum replacement I hate that thing. My reason is they warp so I try to find out how old they are if cleaning and tightening don't do it 15 bucks will do it for a new one, and carb cleaner reap havoc on those seals so I take them off before spraying I sure wish someone knew how to order those seals on the jet! Good video!
@Buckwsr2 жыл бұрын
Yes, starter fluid sprayed into the carburetor throat is a good first test. If the machine starts and runs for a few brief seconds, that confirms that you've got spark and compression, and it also confirms that the issue is fuel flow through the carburetor. And you're right. It's just as easy (maybe easier) to replace these carburetors as it is to clean them.
