Thanks. Yes I did see some leaves fall off. (Thought I did something to it) but there is yellowing on the true leaves. The moisture was heavy and I immediately decided to change the soil when I noticed green in the soil. I discarded the soil, and gave it fresh new soil dampened. I’m crossings my fingers. I have other tomato plant with yellowing as well. I will move those seedling to fresh dirt snd hopefully this will help. No mold noticed. Their water was enriched with liquid fertilizer 6-4-4. They always stay under the grow lights. Why the green in the soil in the wetter pot?

would you consider those seedlings leggy? This is my first year growing from seed and from all Ive seen yours look to be very leggy? Also, is it good to make them a little leggy so you can bury deeper and get a better root base?
@ExpeditionHomestead3 жыл бұрын
The heirloom varieties that I’m growing here do tend to grow very tall but they are also nice and strong. Leggy seedlings become a problem when they’re not growing strong enough and have a hard time standing up, all in all not too much of an issue because you can bury them deep but I wouldn’t intentionally make them leggy. Thanks for watching, happy gardening! 🧑🌾

Interesting, I would have thought the cotyledons yellowing would be the plant withdrawing nutrients for the rest of the plant.

Thank you so much! This is really informative! No video other than yours shows why baby leaves (Cotyledon) could turn yellow and curl. I was wondering why my two cucumber seedlings with 2 true leaves (starting 3rd) went yellow (brown underneath), curled and dried out. My soil mix consists of peat coir and perlite without compost or fertilizer. So it's normal that a tall cucumber with 2 true leaves would lack nutrients and sacrifice baby leaves. So I planted them up with warm castings added. Hope they go fine. Other things I considered were overexposure to direct sun and overwatering. My soil does not dry out probably due to perlites and indoors environment. Not sure if they have impact as well. The true leaves feel crunchy.
@ExpeditionHomestead4 жыл бұрын
You’re on the right track but the crunchy leaves might be a sign of too much direct light when they are young and tender but this is usually pretty rare as they do need lots of sun. Overwatering would turn them yellow but that doesn’t explain the crispy leaves. I think it might have been a combination of a lack of nutrients and possibly a little damage from the overwatering. I think the compost will help a lot otherwise throw in a 1/2 strength solution of veggie fertilizer

Hi. My seedlings stem are purple in color but greeny false leaves. Is it normal or it's having any deficiencies?

I started my tomatoes Feb 24 in an unheated greenhouse in full sun. Took along time to sprout, most still do not have true leaves., Leaves are yellow No legginess. finally gave them watered down fish and seaweed fertilizer 3 days ago. no growth resonse yet. Sowed seed in solo cups half full of potting soil, with the pkan as they grow up to the top I can fill the cup with soil to get more roots. could it be it is too cold at night ( mid 30-40) and that is preventing growth.?

Is it normal for those false leaves to yellow and fall off before the true leaves even grow? Asking for a friend 😭
@ExpeditionHomestead4 жыл бұрын
This can happen but is not common, they may want to take a deeper look into the problem, the plants may be done for at this point because those leaves are how they get energy at first until it can achieve photosynthesis

Our seedling have been growing indoors since March 21. We have been feeding them, first with a 1/4 mix of a 2-8-4 liquid fertilizer and started a 1/2 mix about 2 weeks ago. We have 3 heirloom varieties. One variety has started getting light brown spots on some of the leaves and is loosing leaves at the bottom and has some started to wilt on top. The green in the leaves looks good and healthy by we are starting to worry. Is this from lack of Nitrogen, too much watering or something else? I can send a photo if necessary.
@ExpeditionHomestead2 жыл бұрын
I’d just cut off the dying leaves and let the healthy ones take care of the plants needs. This way you can avoid spreading disease much more if that is the cause. Watch your watering and light closely because those two factors are more likely to be the issue
@Editnamehere3 жыл бұрын
My first set of true leaves for my jalapeño peppers are pale green with a hint of yellow. I have no idea what the problem is. No wilting no drooping very strong seedlings. Any ideas?
@ExpeditionHomestead3 жыл бұрын
Its very hard to say but the likely factors are 1. Sunlight 2. Nutrients

Your seedlings are extremely leggy. Won't they fall over if you try to harden them off outside before planting out? One year my tomatoes were not even as tall as yours and when I turned them out on a very lightly windy day they flopped over!
@ExpeditionHomestead3 жыл бұрын
I don’t mind leggy tomatoes at all BECAUSE we bury them deep before gardening off and transplanting 😃 kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaSve5ialJt0n8k Burying deep will give your much bigger healthier and happier plants as well :)

I think you have phosphorus deficiency though... Due to the simplicity of the fact it looks like you have purple stem on your tomato seedings.
@ExpeditionHomestead4 жыл бұрын
Yes they are a little shy on phosphorus because I don’t fertilize them while in their original seedling tray. Fertilized when I transplanted them into larger cups, will have a video coming up on that 😊
