Guy, you mention in one of the two videos (I forget which, sorry!) that the SX system + range extender have to be run together (when using the extender, obviously). Other systems let you choose to run the range extender dry first so you can ditch it if you’re doing laps, as you were here; are you sure there’s no option to do that with the Bosch system? That seems like a glaring omission. Lastly, I had the opportunity to ride both of these bikes at a test day last week (only about 20 minutes on each, sadly) and was thoroughly impressed. The 150 is clearly the best all rounder so while that would be the one I’d choose, the 140 was an absolute riot on the fast, flowing test route (part of Cannock Chase). I’m wondering if a second set of wheels shod with spicy tyres might give the 150 Works 80% or so of the extra rolling speed and general XC vibe of the 140… best of both worlds? What do you think?

Yeah a 150 with spare wheels and faster tyres would be a weapon. I quizzed Bosch and Whyte about the battery thing and it’s apparently to do with the combined amp capacity. It calibrates the complete system whether you do or don’t add the spare battery. I’ve now forgotten the exact science from here but basically you won’t get as much torque without really eating into range and the whole system won’t be as efficient. Or something like that. It is frustrating having to carry all that extra weight round if you’re riding economically and don’t need that torque. I would certainly have liked to have ditched it after the first lap and did actually unplug it but the main battery was already a third drained so I had to stick it back on again.

@@GuyKesTV thanks for getting back to me 👍🏻 That seems insane, especially given that other systems have offered this option for a couple of years. I don’t know enough about the science to even guess here, but I wonder if this is something g that can be rectified via software updates etc. I suppose you’d have to just start with the extender off, drain as much as you dare from the main battery and THEN put the extender on?! Madness 😂

What head units is that?

Ey up Dave, it's a Hammerhead so not connected to the motor in any way. The bike has the connectors needed for a Bosch Kiox unit if you want to run a full data display
