These Cutscenes are another reason this deserves RTS of the Year 2009. It had excellent storytelling and it Humanized the "enemy". It showed us that deep down, when we are all in the mud, blood and grime together, that we are all the same. No exceptions here.

True. Problem is that when its talking about "Enemy is same as us. A Human" its usely shoed all the way to WW1, but i almost hear no words that Axis or Soviets (Post WW2-Cold War) ware as human as Allies or NATO are. Wish pepole would relase that WW1 its not the only place wher pepole realsed thay are fighting other humans. But it happened in all damn wars. But what can you do? Propaganda at its finest.

I mean WW2 is pretty clear cut situation of 'these people are fucking evil and insane.' Nobody really thinks the Russians were entirely evil in the Cold War, just that the Soviet Union was oppressive.

Depends on the view, i dont disagree that Nazis and SS ware bad shiet creazy, but when we look at Wehrmacht it self we can see it wasint that cut and dry. Ther ware pepole who did cared for other human being. Agien, propaganda but its easer to say "Everyone" instand of "Specific group" Least back then it was ease enough by just looking at insignia thay ware... Ther ware pepole who thinked thay ware bad, but some did not mostly becouse thay got tired of war. (Thay all knew in rather short time ther ware two major wars and thay ware in werge or third war...) And truth to tell, i met so far very little info on that pepole in majority did NOT hated/feared USSR in times of cold war and im talking about many countrys. Those in eastern block too.

Even as an anti-communist I enjoyed playing as the Soviets in this game entirely because of the narrative and human like character of the Soviets, they were portrayed as humans and not just mindless blood lusting Soviet bastards and I think it's the first time I didn't just hate them but tried to understand them as human beings and people. There was a sense of compassion during the Soviet campaign, especially for the hardened Colonel.

It's eerie coming back to these videos, especially as a Russian who moved to America 15 years ago. There is fanaticism back in Russia, but a lot of people are just broken and trying to live their sad lives, day by day. I do believe if Putin tries to utilize the entire army, or start a mass mobilization, the army will rebel. There is already partisan activity and insubordination within the army fighting in Ukraine. It's a sad state of affairs for all Slavs.

Personally I like the Soviet characters in WIC more then the American ones. They feel more realistic and human to me.

While I've liked some of the stories in early Command and Conquer games, WiC had by far the best story and most human characters of any RTS/RTT.

It's a work of geniuses!! Somebody turn this into a show which is true to the game's atmosphere and it would be completely awesome! And the scenario isn't nearly as overused as Sci-Fi, WW2 or fighting terrorists in the modern world.

@gigabytethree they could be referring to some of the factories near Murmansk, Leningrad, and several other port areas. There is in way that they could get that deep into the USSR without getting shot out of the sky.

Its strange, Colonel Sabatier, (is that how you spell his name?) the French commandant in the NATO missions, has a cutscene where he is speaking to his wife/fiance in his normal language French, but when you play as the Russians/watch the Russian cutscenes, they don't speak their normal language.

@JinRenegade Because the French was second "class" character wasnt part of the main characters the Soviet Campaign puts the Soviets as Main Characters so they speak English in first game Soviets speak Russian

@gigabytethree Yeah :D ; I don't know much about the USAF itself and paratroopers but most of their fleet is C-130's for paratroopers and their less capable then Il76 which Russia uses and smaller, but their all good in the end anyway :D

There were voice actors in the game that read lines in Russian (e.g. when you zoom up to Russian soldiers they speak Russian, I don't know if it's good Russian though but at least the voice actors are attempting to speak it if it's broken, but I wouldn't know if it's broken or not because I don't speak Russian), so why not attempt to speak Russian in the Soviet cutscenes?
