The only problem with your comment is who enforces the State open meetings law. That lies in the hands of the State Attorney's General. I was threatened to be arrested, removed from a City Commission meeting if I EVER spoke at another one in my city so I contacted the Kansas AG office and was told that the chairperson of an open meeting can run their meeting any way they want. My comments in those meetings were never profane nor derogatory toward any specific individual. They simply didn't like that I expressed one person's view (one of We The People) on many of the actual issues the commission wanted to vote on. These were actual issues, not merely procedural meeting minutiae. The State AG just as well have told me to go pound sand.

There should be a codified law requiring every open meeting to have a public comment section either during or after the organizational group's discussion of a subject they will be voting on, excluding procedural minutiae, because having a public comment section AFTER votes have been cast and decisions have been made are fairly useless. Overturning a board's decision by vote can take months or even years.

Having been a school teacher and librarian, I have always been amazed at people who get elected to a school board, but seem surprised if they get any negative feedback, especially about spending. I am sure these people ran for the board with the intention of helping the students and teachers. If the board would COMMUNICATE with the public on their reasons for what they do, things will go over a lot more smoothly, many of the parents would not have problems with board decisions if they understood the WHY of the decision. Even if the parents didn't like the reason, if they know the reasoning that brought about a certain decision, they might be satisfied. This ELECTED BOARD is responsible to have open meetings, despite "her majesty" who said they didn't have to have open meetings. Her ROYAL HIGHNESS demanded the public show respect for the board, but she doesn't seem to respect the public that elected her. Typical politician!

Yes but the school. Board is under financial distress from the State board of education unwillingness to fund the Wichita school system . So the local board is forced to consolidate the schools. See the last speaker on this video a member of the State board who never voted to adequately fund the Wichita school system. Yes the school board elected officials are monsters in the making and that is why voting for school board members is as important as voting for national offices but the unwillingness of the voting public to approve & vote for candidates willing to increase taxes to to adequately fund the schools is a problem. Oh, and by the way, unless we have a “closed session” (which is a very narrowly and highly scrutinized category), the public is allowed to attend ANY quorum meeting (where we have a majority of our board members together) including ANY AND ALL WORK SESSIONS and COMMITTEE MEETINGS. In fact, the school reporter for our local newspaper attends almost every one of those meetings and reports on them.

10 minutes into this video and I'm wondering why no one is speaking up to this woman, who in the hell does she think she is, why is everyone just sitting there and not telling this lady where to go, don't call us liars? People can call you a liar all they want, you can't tell them not to say this or not to say that, what is wrong with that lady ?

I’m a school board member and I ALWAYS keep in the front of my mind: I WAS ELECTED TO REPRESENT THE PEOPLE IN OUR DISTRICT. The children, staff, and parents deserve my time, attention, thought, research, and conscience. And I listen to EVERY student, parent, staff member, and stakeholder. It IS true that “open meeting” means we hold our meetings in public and that we cannot legally have a back and forth with the public unless we’ve invited them to speak on the agenda or designated a meeting as a “town hall”. But we DO allow the public to speak as long as they do not speak about a specific employee or student. I’ve NEVER seen anyone interrupt and shutdown public speakers like this board president. This was infuriating to sit through!!!

Pull your kids out of the public sewage system that teaches boys how to be chics! Enroll them in private, religious schools.
