They're very different! The novel is an adult book. The show is family-friendly.

I remember buying the book when I was 15 after seeing the play and the woman at the bookstore warned me it wasn’t the same… poor me had no idea what I was in for LOL. I never finished it and I actually had to throw it out this year because my cat peed on it

The second part will follow when WICKED continues its conclusion in chapter 2 on November 21st next year (should be on Halloween seeing it has witches and fairies and things like that or in the summer)

LOL. He's raking in all kinds of cash for doing absolutely nothing. Maggie Holzman wrote the musical. The musical has absolutely nothing to do with Maguire's cringe, perverted, cynical weirdness. The only reason he "approves" is because they're sending him checks. The only reason they're sending him checks is so that he doesn't sue.

If he had never written his version, we wouldn’t have the Broadway show we now know and love. You may not enjoy Maguire’s take on Oz, but it was the springboard for the cultural phenomenon Wicked is today. Personally, I am a huge fan of both Maguire’s novel, and Winnie Holzman’s adaptation (Holzman didn’t single-handedly influence the plot btw.) There was a whole creative team of people who had a hand in condensing the source material into a 2 and a half hour long show.
