j03ri it’s been in the works since 2012, and even long before that. Plus it was recently delayed because of issues with the adaptation of Cats. I’d really like a special recording of a stage production, like what’s been done for various shows throughout the years that appear on Broadway channels and streams. Just something about those recordings that are uniquely different from a film adaptation.

they kind of don't want that because of how well the show sells. They record every single show and record the audio of the pit and actors. it's mainly used for critiquing

Steve Cohen understandable. A fan of the stage would want to catch it live regardless, but I know many more would be satisfied with just a recording. I often wonder why some shows become available in a home format (I remember seeing Cats VHS tapes all throughout the 80s and 90s) and others don’t. Plus, the recording above goes WAY beyond the scope of simply recording for critiquing purposes, it’s a downright tease!

Wicked is one of the most popular shows on broadway even today, if a movie/ professional recording of the musical was created and released during the show’s actual run, the show’s audience numbers would straight up DROP. Ending the live run of this masterpiece of a show.

Right, okay, so obviously there's the ability to make a beautiful professional recording of wicked for all to enjoy. Maybe play it at the theatres, before releasing it on dvd. But no matter how you do it, make it somewhat accessible, because not everyone can see live shows, and all you're doing otherwise is forcing people to resort to crappy bootlegs. It's not even like having a recording publicly available would decrease ticket sales or anything, because let me tell you that despite seeing newsies live approximately 354 times on Netflix, I still cried during the overture when my community theater did it because I was so excited. Please release the entire show, it would mean so much to so many people. Musical theater should not be a classist form of entertainment to the extreme that it is today

I must agree. Heck most of the time I won't pay show ticket prices until I've had the chance to see if I actually like the show. Wicked is a show I paid to see, but still had watched the bootleg multiple times before that, which I wouldn't have done had a version of it been available to buy.

Since the lockdowns have impacted Broadway so dramatically in 2020, perhaps they will begin considering professional recordings/dvds as a way of recouping money lost in 20w0. Lets hope it inspires creativity!

This is amazing! Such attention to detail. The little things, the shimmer and glitter on Glinda's ball gown, the contour and definition on Elphaba's face, Glinda gasping and catching her breath as Elphaba defies gravity, a somber and questioning solo shot of an ensemble members face, Elphaba's snarky laugh in Loathing, and not to mention Jackie Burns and Amanda Jane Cooper ACTUALLY SINGING. So glad they FINALLY replaced the Idina dub. Broadway at its best. This trailer was LONG overdue

I saw this in June in broadway for a 8th grade end of year east coast trip, and it was amazing! I had shivers down my spine the whole time with their amazing vocals. Also when I saw in the butler from the Disney channel show Jessie played the wizard, and when it’s a bunch of kids who grew up with watching this guy, you can expect they were cheering a lot more that when anyone else went on😂

Literal tears-this is so perfect. I saw the show 11 times when it was in LA for a few years over ten years ago and I still love it to this day-Elphaba was so relatable to an outcast/bullied middle school me and a new to high school with no friends in my new school freshman year me. I will always love this musical and the fond memories I have of seeing it live, and I hope one day to bring my boyfriend to see the show with me as he is very interested in seeing it for the first time. Keep on being awesome, Wicked the Musical!
