What did you think of this film? I thought it was good fun watching it and the weight of the message wasn't compromised by the comedic lens that it was shown through! Let me know your thoughts below.

Absolute rubbish. However if you are looking for a piece of virtue signalling propaganda where all the men are evil, cruel and stupid and all the women are ever so smart but endlessly victimised, then this is for you, enjoy

As a psychotherapist I was intrigued by the latter part of the movie once it was evident that Edith was writing the letters to her own self. Was not expecting that. What's interesting is that she sent the hate letters to herself when she could have been sending the anonymous letters to her father. I agree with the fact that the letters were an expression of rage toward her father. But there is huge self hatred as well as jealousy and confusion with Rose. You can see in her eyes throughout the film that she is jealous of Rose at some points, the love between Rose and her child, the love affair she's having, especially the scene with the sex screaming, Edith was probably wishing it was her. Her cultural religious purity and the contrast to her real wild self that's crying to come out of her self made prison as well as the cultural times she lived in. her rage at her father who stopped her from blossoming into her own power, and the fact that Rose could a be a free liberated women in speech and action. So I am thinking she directed the blame at Rose because she couldn't experience what Rose had and didn''t want that reminder in her face every day and wanted to make her go away and punish her. The fact that Edith wrote hate notes to herself, is also a form of self hatred. She hates her life and she blames herself for NOT being bold enough to live a wilder life. This is such a juicy movie psychologically , I loved it. I found out it was based on a true story after I watched it.

So glad you made a video about this film! I just saw it in the theater and didn’t understand the bit about the stamp on the last letter. Thank you for the explanation. I totally agree with your assessment; a fun and well-made film!

Thank you for your excellent review. I completely enjoyed the movie, but had a strong emotional response at the end. Having experienced childhood family emotional abuse myself and spending a lifetime figuring out how that has impacted me and my behavior, I felt both seen and very sad. That it took imprisonment to be emotionally freed from abuse and inappropriate self-soothing behavior…not sure I can express the loss I feel about that. But wow! So grateful I saw it, and that it was a comedy. I sat by myself for awhile after the credits ended. When I left the theater, I saw another woman sitting on her own as well. I wondered if we had just shared the same response to this movie.

There's also an argument that Edith has narcissistic personality disorder because she wasn't able to control Rose (a narcissistic source of supply) to comply with her fake personality. Her experience with her father is used as an excuse for her behaviour. But let's not forget she wants to control Rose to her way of thinking. At the end we see Edith's true personality when she is finally arrested.

I very much enjoyed the film. I was astounded at the end to see that it was based on actual events. Reading the small amount that was available it did seem the actual events were more caused by a falling out between Edith and Rose, rather than Edith acting out from crushing despair at her overbearing father depicted in the film. Though it did provide a bright and uplifting take on what could have a depressing story of a selfish parent sabotaging their own child's life and happiness just to maintain the parent's status quo.

I was relieved the film didn’t draw out the "mystery" of who was sending the letters for the entire film as it was rather obvious from the get-go that Edith was sending them to herself. The film picked up after that revelation was done.

I enjoyed the movie, was only a bit surprised to find out it was Edith sending the letters. I would not call it a comedy. There were some amusing moments but I had a hard time seeing past the tragedy of Edith's life and the difficulty Rose and her daughter and partner were going through. And Edith's mom.

Edith's father was the real culprit..He led her down this path by stifling her and abusing her psychologically and emotionally..I literally almost shrieked with joy when she gave him a piece of her mind in the end..it was a no brainer from the get to that Edith was the one writing those letters..she believed it was her only form of releasing all pain and boy did she feel a great sense of relief after giving it to her Old man in the end..Old bastrad is gonna die alone 😂...

Funny, charming, superbly acted, wonderfully filmed. But..... the predictablity of piggy backing what were actual events with a completely fictional story which blames the patriarchy to the extent that the actions of killing her mother were the fault of her father! To celebrate the first female police officer (fact) is great, but to pretend that she single-handedly brought down the perpetrator despite the efforts of her male colleagues to thwart her, was yet more Netflx-by-numbers story telling about our 'terrible' past. Best advice, turn your brain off but enjoy it given how well it's been put together,

Outstanding news...God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 People say how can a loving God send people to hell. He does not send people to hell people choose who they will serve. Please believe and repent of you sin today dont be left behind.
