I agree with you Jared. The connections won't be made automatically because media products like this (I haven't seen this movie) have existed for a long time. I mean damn, Avatar literally spells it out for the audience: Marines are being used to secure mining interests from an indigenous population. If the Na'vi were brown and not blue I still don't think people would make the connection. I call it the dystopian theory. We're living in a dystopia and this reality is very much shaped by media products. The media products, often with huge productions, will tell stories of the empires exploits but it also creates a disconnect because as Marx said, it's not our consciousness that determines our existence but our social existence that determines our consciousness. When those who see the connections share their observations - the people disconnected refers back to the media products and respond "but that's just a movie" or "dystopias are just science fiction fantasies". It's kind of a weird mirror within a mirror. I used to run a food truck called dystopian food truck 😄

11:40 Universal Pictures, via a article in Variety, denied the pay discrepancy and said they were paid the same. If you have evidence that Cynthia wasn't paid the same, please share.

I posted the same thing. The pay disparity allegations were completely made up online and shared by people with no sources. Erivo and Grande were paid the same.

I saw Wicked because movies are high and I only go when someone who's got it will get my ticket. Also, it was a chance to hang out with some family members. Unfortunately, I am far less 'with the imperial shits' than them. When the screen cut to black, I left Wicked in the theatre and they brought the (middle-class) analysis to the car. It's interesting seeing my upbringing reflected back at me. At least one person genuinely saw Blackness in relation to empire and capitalism properly depicted in this Universal Pictures production.

The mythologies are so strong. I swear I bought weed from a dude, stayed to chat and within a few min, he told me the parties never switched and trump loves America. It's wild out here

Analysis of consumer culture. Very good.
@mansurx2629 күн бұрын
Why in our verbiage do we emphasize the consumption and not the labor that allows for the consumption? Is it not labor that produces good and services? And is it not labor that we exchange for fiat currency which provides us with the capacity to purchase said goods and services? If so, why aren’t folks more critical of the term consumer-based economy?

Seeing an African actress in a movie based on a whyte fantasy world does not represent revolution in any way, shape or form. Cynthia Erivo does not even identify herself as African and never said that this role is intended to promote any kind of African revolutionary conscious. And to the point of economics, there is a whole continent called Africa with multiple movie industries and talented people who could actually do movies about actual African resistance and revolution without being set in a whyt fantasy world. Not to mention that the original wizard of Oz was a critique of capitalism and the change from the dollar being based on the gold standard. And all of that is completely missed in this analysis, because if anything Cynthia and most actors are chasing the fantasy of wealth represented by Oz. And as for STEM, university and education in America in general has always been about job training. So most people going to college, even if they dabble in any kind of organizing activity, are doing so to get a job and become part of the system. That is with or without STEM. Otherwise, all those folks from college in the 80s and 90s when African conscious was at its highest point would have actually produced results by now.

Nixon took the USD off the h gold standard years after the original story was written.

You seem to be misinterpreting what Dr. Ball is attempting to convey with his analysis on film. Know that the scenario is one they are hoping we will adopt. He is saying we should encounter these tales and recognize the clever trick of the enemy, to confuse, and make us adopt without criticism. as for STEM training, Dr. Ball has talked extensively about that also.

@@anji_j I am talking about the propaganda inherent in the talking points from the tiktok video. Like the last poets once said, "the revolution will not be televised". And it will not be put in movies, on tv or funded and promoted by major corporations and institutions.

The girl in the video you share is an organizer in the Chicago Communist party so perhaps she can plan events around discussions of the film to bring people into her organization. Cynthia and Ariana were paid the same the rumor about her getting paid more went insane. But it came out that they were paid the same.

Wizard of Oz was a political piece from the early 1900s about unhinged capitalism. So in order to make money off of the product they had to bring it back into the fold

Would you say that buying power = overall participation capacity? Participation in upholding of empire, through consumption.

Maybe this was recorded before those pay disparity rumors started but it was merely internet rumors with no sources attached. Both women have come forward and said the rumor wasn’t true. They were paid the same.
