@ The Wicked Witch of the West is weak against water. It sounds a little silly, but now that I think of it, water can be symbolic of purity and holiness, and so throwing water onto the witch cleanses her of her evil and wickedness, which melted her away to nothing.

Brilliant! I always wished that they had been able to do a more realistic melting scene of the Wicked Witch. For the times, the disappearing elevator was likely the best they could have done to dispose of the old crone. I suspect that if they were ever to do a remake, a more graphic melt-down would be appropriate! Thanks for your efforts! (That's a lot of work to just melt away!)
