When it comes to Australian names, it doesn’t get much less original then the Common Tree Snake. Also known as the Green Tree Snake or Australian Tree Snake, the Common Tree Snake is found throughout Eastern Australia and Papua New Guinae
It is a slender, athletic snake built to pursue it prey through the canopy. The Common tree snake feeds mostly on frogs and lizards but will also consume fish
Common tree snakes are egg laying snakes producing clutches of 5-12 eggs

I had always heard of Common Tree Snakes being rather defensive, it’s really cool to see one that is pretty accustomed to handling. I find it interesting how colubrids are outnumbered so heavily in Australia, I suppose that makes any colubrid encounter that much more special! As always you imparted a lot of great information and I learned a lot. Cheers Nick! - Harrison and Evan

I’ve got one of these living in my retaining wall. Easy 1.5-2m long. They’re extremely timid snakes. Beautiful colouring. Amazing how fast they can get up on top of a tree canopy. Poor little bugger cops a hard time from the minor birds. Always know where he is by the way they carry on. Normally hate snakes but this one’s taught me to appreciate them a little more.

What a beautiful snake! I really enjoyed learning about these snakes and their variety in colors. The Green Tree Snake with the black skin and the yellow belly.That´s like saying "the round table with the four corners" Lol. And: Thank you for not showing a picture of a snake with the tape worm - I was having dinner while watching. Lol.

@@WickedWildlife I've had snakes draped over my shoulders, like a 12 foot Burmese Python and I've been amazed at their powerful muscular contractions. But I found that if you're careful how you handle them, they stay really calm. You have to give them respect.

Calling Tree Snakes a Yellow Belly Black is super common around Ingham, Cardwell and Tully. Use to live up there, almost everyone refers to them as this. I think it so they don't get confused with the Green Tree Python found in the Daintree

Folks in Townsville (where I used to live) call them this too But the average person not interested with snakes didn’t actually know that they where the same species as green tree snakes

Yellow bellied black snake? It’s probably as common as our Tasmanian black snake! Lol, tigers and copperheads can both be all black down here with only the head scales outwardly differing between the two. I don’t wanna get close enough to see… That little snake is beautiful though! 👍

@@WickedWildlife could be pretty cool seen a few small lizards before not sure on species. Also our legless lizard the slow worm which are cute even if they do like covering you in poop. Always keeping my eye out for an adder, granted not going to get too near but would love to see a wild one. My mum knows a place soo we need to go there at somepoint this summer.

G'day, Nick! That reminds me of the common garter snake we have here in America. They're supposed ro be good for keeping pests out of people's gardens. I am terrified of snakes, though- doesn't matter what kind they are. That's my brother's fault. When we were little kids, he found a big snake(it was dead, but I didn't know that!) and he chased me with it! I've been terrified of snakes ever since. Actually, I'm afraid of reptiles, period. Anything that has a slither tongue scare the bejeepers out of me! So I give them a healthy, wide berth. We have so many darn poisonous snakes in this country it's ridiculous. People always flip about the venomous snakes in Australia, but they conveniently forget we have more than our share here, and some particularly nasty ones at that. One of the nastiest ones is called by rwo different names, depending on where you live. Down South(where I was born and grew up), we call it the cottonmouth. Everyone else calls it the water moccasin. Its venom is particularly deadly. Don't know if you have those in Australia. We also have several different species of rattlesnake, depending on where you live in the country. It's probably as well I'm afraid of snakes. I'm not coping well after losing Mac. Your poem was beautiful, and it really made me cry. I think it's going to be a long time before I return to anything approaching normal again. I'm glad I'll be able to travel soon. I'm going to go visit my brother, who lives about a four hour plane ride from me. I think it will be good for me to go away for awhile. We are allowed to travel domestically here. I'm tired of being stuck in one place. I want to go elsewhere. Thank you so much for your empathy. Only another animal lover can understand the pain I'm in. We go to Daylight Savings Time tonight, so as of tomorrow I'll be on US EDT, and only 14 hrs. behind you. I'll be able to join your Patreon in April, so hope that will help you get down to SA. Is it expensive to fly around Australia, or can you take a train? You don't have to drive down, do you? Ick!
@WickedWildlife
@WickedWildlife 3 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry to hear your struggling with your loss but it’s totally understandable Unfortunately I live in a very rural area So we don’t have passenger trains Adelaide is about a 6 hour drive or a 2 hour drive with a flight but that airport only flys to Adelaide To visit anywhere else the nearest major airport is 4 hours away
@ecclestonsangel
@ecclestonsangel 3 жыл бұрын
@@WickedWildlife I can relate, Nick. I live in a pretty rural area, too. My brother's house in Chesapeake, VA, is a 10 hr. drive. You have to factor in accidents on Interstate 64. There are ALWAYS accidents on 64! $5 says you have an interstate like that, too. To get to a decent airport from where I live, you need to drive about 90 minutes. We could drive the half hour to our regional airport, but flights there are prohibitively expensive, whereas if you just drive the 90 minutes up to Syracuse, you pay less than half the price for a ticket. And gas is still somewhat reasonable here, so it's a savings. With my broken back, I just can't tolerate the drive any more. I like flying better, any road. I find it relaxing. I fly Delta here. It's our best airline. I can't fly the no frills airlines because I'm in a wheelchair and need the legroom they don't have. I'd rather fly Delta, any road. They treat me very well. I get free upgrades a lot. Can't beat that!
