Another hack: If you have a reptile who needs UVB (i.e. a Bearded Dreagon), don't throw out the spent UVB bulbs! I've found that *light wise* they last 2x as long as the UVB coating lasts. So I have a second fixture that I use exclusively for light. The new bulb goes in the UVB fixture, and I swap the old bulb to the light fixture. This way you don't need to buy 2x the bulbs.
@FogartyFogz2 жыл бұрын
Not the best idea unless you have a solar meter and you know the uvb is for sure dead. Can easily bake them in too much uvb
@muurrarium94602 жыл бұрын
@@FogartyFogz Maybe use those "spend/ halflife" bulbs in other enclosures? Even reptiles etc. that 'do not need" UV-b usually benefit from some of it. But I agree, would not dose maybe 50-30-20-15% extra on top of the new output.
@danvitty5442 Жыл бұрын
Definitely not recommended. When the bulb is “spent” that doesn’t mean it’s completely dead, just operating at a lower output. Which means combined with the new one you could be giving as much as 175-150% the recommended amount of UVB, way too much and could harm the animal. Don’t do this.

First off...badass intro. Second, I love having cameras in my enclosures with the egg gluers. It's allowed me to post TikToks of eggs being laid, babies hatching even if I was asleep when it happened. Plus it's nice to know what some of the shy critters are up to when I'm not "intruding".

Hey Adam, great video - I got a good collection of slate from my area, as well as moss. Speaking of tech, a future video covering power outages/disaster prep would be a good topic, including managing priorities (heat or UVB), battery back-ups, solar powered products, quick temporary housing, etc. I'm also thinking of enclosure ventilation - is there a benefit to putting a fan on or safely in the enclosure. Seems like keeping enclosures full of hot, humid air without circulation or fresh air might not be the most healthy thing - I don't know...

I have been doing this since I started getting into terrariums, collecting stuff outside! It's fun to do and you have supplies for forever that you know the origin of. Remember to not gather leaves, rocks, or wood where lots of insecticide is sprayed, like parks or heavily populated areas! Have fun exploring out there y'all!

What a gorgeous python! It would be great if you could do some videos introducing your pets and telling us about them, their histories and care. Hey Adam I know this video would be difficult to make and you may have already done it, but a video on best reptiles for your money at different price ranges. Love the videos Adam. This has really benefited my reptile keeping. Thanks
@Chudchanning2 жыл бұрын
That's such a huge part of reptile videos that gets glossed over, nobody can give a general price range. I know prices all vary, but there's atleast a median going price for reptiles. I hate when a video is like "this animal is super affordable!" With zero context, then when I see that animal it's like 200 bucks or something. I suppose it's a catch 22 though because people get mad when they hear a price then see a different one somewhere. I heard dart frogs were about 40 or 50 a piece for more co.mon species but then the base price I've seen out here is like 80 bucks a piece

Also just bought a dumb humidifier to pair up with a smart plug to make it a smart humidifier. Also bought a 30$ camera to put in my snake's enclosure so I know her activity at night. I've been using the reptisun LED UVB since they've come out and always loved the design and quality of the light. The problem was automating the blue lights. It has different switches tou could add a timer for but the problem was the LEDs (including the blue lights) were on one circuit so a timer would turn everything off. Using a switchbot I found I can automate the blue lights so theyre on at night and the rest of the lights are off. Totally a game changer

Python Portals from Specialtyenclosuredesigns is a good hack. Get a 50gal tub or bigger, can hold small boas or pythons, for like, a fifth the price. Especially because the measurements are better than a 50gal aquarium, they are usually 4ft x 18inches and up to 20 inches tall, give or take.
