God I miss those days.Not knocking them today, but there was a special magic with Mikey. I'm so grateful to have been able to experience WSP with them. Also the ABB with Betts, Haynes and Woody, and of course the Dead with Jerry. The music has kept going but things do change.

Houser did some very simple but unique, perhaps even inventive, stuff in his solos. His Hatfield solo might be my favorite.

I think that's why I always adored Mikey because he was always playing simple notes but with this aura that I cant quite put my finger on....the reverby, vibrato style that was 100% unique....and when he was feeling it with some distortion on his guitar look out....it literally sounds like he was panicing while playing....so cool...good comment..cheers

That lingering lead. Unusual technique with his bends and volume pedal. He was never going to blow you away with flurries of arpeggios, but he was so very special in his own way. Miss him.

The Mikey years were the best of times... it was such a blast following Panic back then all over the US and Europe once ... spent around $500k during my run '90 - 2015ish... kids and busy with life nowadays.... I need to get my old pro dat machine serviced and transfer all 3,000+ hours I personally taped back in the day... priceless gems !!!

Hey man, love the story! I saw a bunch of mikey shows in the 90's too. Mike's sound, when he would touch the fretboard, literally sounded like clouds of notes just floating. His gear set up really helped out alot too. We might have been at alot of the same shows in the 90's... Pensacola Bayfront 94-97, Pensacola Spring Fest 93-97, New Orleans Tipitinas winter 93, Jackson MS spring 98, Oak Mountain 94-95, Light fuse get away athens GA 97, Haloween new orleans 97, Mississippi state Univ March 99, New Orleans Jazz fest 97, Milsapps college in Jackson MS i think 95 or 96. Precious years man, just gems... Hey man just curious, do you have video footage of the old mikey days?
@dustybottoms27809 ай бұрын
Oh I know, I dropped a cool 1.2M during my run from 89 to 23. I have 6K hours of dats and videos I need to get out. There in the climate controlled panic vault I have. I even hired an archivist to catalog it all. I mostly just smoke doobies in the stereo room I had built. That alone cost me 200k.

I just watch these old videos. Jimmy Herring might be a decent player but he sucks with Panic. I don’t go see them anymore. It was Mike’s band, he put it together and it was his sound. He also wrote all the good originals. It’s like Skynard without Ronnie and Allen. Just enjoy the recordings.

Man, this is good. I missed out on a lot of music in the 90's working like a dog. What makes it sadder is I didn't know there was a WSP ver 1.0. with this wonderful guitarist on the left who I'll never get to see. Looks like he always had the touch. Sorry I wasn't paying attention Mike.

Hatfield's Mama? She usually has something to say about Homebrew Beer and Homemade Wine. Then pull out her 3 string banjo and play 9 and a half bar blues. Sometimes I've heard 12.5 or 13.5. No one has ever mentioned 12 bar blues. Must be a little off with the turn around. Hangs on the turn for two more beats
