I've been to Wiesbaden, Mainz, Bonn, Koblenz, Dusseldorf, Koln/Deutz, Franfurt/Sachsenhausen, Freiburg and a few other smaller cities I can't remember. Spent 10 days in Freiburg during the Summer Solstice a few years ago. There is something very special about the Dreisam River in Freiburg during the Solstice! The added bonus of having the Black Forest made this my favorite German city. It's also the warmest city in Germany. Maybe go check it out during the solstice. I saw so many people relaxing and enjoying the calm river at dusk. Very serene.

Yeah, there's definitely a Mainz-Wiesbaden rivalry. Wiesbaden was always viewed as being more for upper-class people and maybe being more snobby by the Mainzers. But Mainz is now getting more expensive to live in while available apartments are becoming scarce. It's not the hidden gem that it once was just a few years ago. A lot of my friends there have had to move further and further out. I'm heavily bias being half-American, and half-Mainzer, but I'd highly recommend moving there if the opportunity knocks.

We were technically part of the Mainz military community, but I also made lots of trips to Wiesbaden. There used to be a much larger U.S. military presence in that whole area back in the day, but my old base in Rüsselsheim, along with most of the bases in Mainz and Wiesbaden are either closed or drastically scaled down now. It is just perfectly located if you like to travel, we love spending a weekend in Straßburg which is only about 2 1/2 hours drive. And there is so much to do an dicover in the areas directly around in Wiesbaden. The Rheingau is amazingly beautifull. Just be aware of our huge traffic troubles. For month and month the "Salzbachtalbrücke" has been our curse (there was even a radio jingel made for by a radio station they played for the at least twice daily really big traffic jams) and it was blown up just last weekend. Until the bridge is rebuild we will continue to have terrible traffic. And traffic politics in Wiesbaden in generall a big problem, even without the Salzbachtalbrücke.

A bit of history in Wiesbaden. I am sure you may have read about the US hostages held in Iran? 1979-1980 When they were freed they flew to Frankfurt and had to recover from their ordeal at "Amelia Earhart" hospital in Wiesbaden. I happened to be in the Army then and took the train to Frankfurt and saw the plane and then to the hospital.

K-Town was my grandpa’s first duty station out of the US in the 50s. A couple months into his assignment his American girl friend followed him to Germany (by ship) … they were the first American couple that got married at the Standesamt in Kaiserslautern 😊. Over the course of the following years they had three daughters, PCSed all over the place and got stationed in Germany a total of 3 times. They moved to a small village close to Wiesbaden during his 3rd tour…and decided to stay once he had retired from the air-force and got himself a contractor job. All his daughters ended up marrying a German and stayed as well ….Ironically, decades later, his granddaughter - me 😉 - met an US soldier stationed in Kaiserslautern, got married and after a few years received orders for Fort Bragg / Fayetteville North Carolina ….which is approximately 15 miles away from my grandpa’s home town 😅 I personally love Wiesbaden … unlike Mainz, it wasn’t really bombed during WWll, so all the incredibly beautiful old houses remained intact.

I was born and raised here. Some facts about the „Schloss Biebrich“ The „Herzog von Nassau“ builded it. The „Schlosspark“ was his garden… Imagine having a garden that is the size of a park… People who had a huge influence on world’s history visited the palace Biebrich as well. Like Napoleon, Hitler etc. I love your video cheers!

As a German working in Wiesbaden I can say that it's true that it is a beautiful city with a great amount of cultural and historical places. But for me it's the people who often make it not the nicest city around. They tend to either be arrogant or even rude at some points. If you cross the river Rhine and go to Mainz, it's a whole different vibe in my eyes. Yet I totally agree with most of the points you made, that's just my very personal experience.

Confirmed. I lived in Wiesbaden for 29 years. While the city itself is more beautiful than Mainz, many people are ‘schickimicki‘ (fancy-schmancy) or just very old, while the Mainz population is more down to earth and younger due to many students.

I live in Wiesbaden and your words describe exactly my thoughts. It's the people in a town that makes it nice or not. I even think about moving to Mainz now as it is much more relaxed there...

I hope you will come back someday and film the west side of the city which is the Nordfriedhof (beautiful), the Dürer-Anlage, Klarenthal, a weird church building called Mariä Heimsuchung, the valley town Dotzheim and it's forestpark and the very long street called Dotzheimer street which has tons of unique stores. I would love to see you present it one day. Maybe when you visit another city in the Hessen area, you can make a short stop at Wiesbaden again? I loved the video here and you did a great job of showing the city I was born in. Thanks.

Elvis didn't live in Wiesbaden. But he met his wife in Wiesbaden. Some years ago Priscilla told on german TV that she walked through the Kurpark with Elvis.

@@timothyleary5234 Before then, he was stationed at the Wiesbaden-Biebrich Kaserne. Does not exist anymore, I do remember US soldiers being present until the seventies.

I lived in Wiesbaden for 21 years. It‘s one of Germany‘s nicest cities and as part of „Mainhattan“ the location is great.
