Actually, if you watched the documentary patterns of evidence, there is archeologist David Rohl who proves one heck of an argument and evidence for a historical existence of joseph. Egypt was occupied by the Hyksos people at this time. Which were semitic speaking people that invaded egypt for a dynastic period. There is an actual palace in avaris with 12 columns ( 12 tribes) as well as 12 tombs as well as one of the tombs looking separate than the rest, and being shaped like a pyramid. Inside the tomb is empty ( josephs body was taken back to canaan with moses during the exodus) but there is a statue of a man with light skin, red hair and a coat of many colors that was made, and centuries later defaced by egyptians from southern ( or northern) egypt that came and invaded the hyksos.
