Isn't this a bit unfair for the husband? If she checked out of the marriage - why should he bare the burden of her walking out of the marriage? if she's worried about adultery - then by obtaining a divorce she possibly could still commit sin with another man unless she doesn't take him into marriage. What I don't understand is - if she has no complaints on the marriage - why was she allowed to walk away - it hardly makes a difference between marriage and dating. I'm open to discussion on this as I don't feel this is purely the right way to go about ending marriages - especially with no effort.

@Talha I'm open for the long discussion - on paper and speech it looks harder for women. However once you go through it - the one who stays in the marriage to make it work is the one with the financial and emotional burden. Have you been divorced by chance?

No woman leave the marriage for no reason..there must be some reasons and the fact that she went to the prophet who are the leader and the judge during that time shows her determination of getting divorce...the prophet know this and he didnt question her for whatever reasons..a husband may be good to his wife..but not the family ...or anything else that concerned her...this really shows the mercy of islam rahmatan lil alamin...the husband has the power for talaq ..and the woman has the right for khulu...because nowadays people esp the religious one keep giving wrong teaching to others..the imbalance between the right of man and woman may lead to opression..a wife is taken for granted...as she has no right to walk away .a man can easily divorce her wife..but when a woman unable to tolerate the marriage because of hurtful words ...broken promises..toxic in laws for example ...what mechanism for her to escape the marriage if the husband refuse to divorce??? Fasakh of course not easy...talaq??? Khulu is the best

Talaq is for husbands only. When a wife wants to initiate the divorce, it's called khul' and involves returning the mahr.

women don't have the authority for talaq. it will be meaningless if she did say it as nothing would happen ( even if she said it a million times). she can ask for khula.
