I looked into Martin Offiah's record - it's simply stunning. A Rugby League career which lasted well over a decade (14 years to be precise) and more tries than appearances! He then moved to Union when he himself would admit to being well beyond his best and still a stunning strike rate.

Best winger I ever saw play the game. I've seen a few, the likes of Eric Grothe, John Ferguson, Larry Corowa, Jason Robinson, Ryan Hall. Offiah was the greatest.

Rugby Union's loss. If the RFU hasn't been reluctant to put black players in the team Offiah would have been England's highest try scorer. As it was they plumped for the mediocre Chris Oti as the token nod to inclusivity and the rest is history.

@@alanpartridge1385 they had no problem playing the Underwoods, besides RL was professional then, RU wasn't

Botica was the best kicker we ever had along with pat Richard’s.

@@alanpartridge1385agreed, but he thrived better in league, it’s a more open game as regards attack, less focused on kicking. Money wise he hasn’t done too bad

The 2nd try of Offiah was better than his effort against Leeds IMO. He had no right to get anywhere near that ball, he wasnt even in the race when it bounced. Amazing speed and determination to get there.

I know players weren’t as “cuddly” in those days but from being there, and watching the videos from the time, it strikes me Offiah’s team mates weren’t as in love with him as he was with himself. Of course he was a great player but I don’t think he was a Wigan “great”.
