The apparent lore of this place seems to suggest that this "sanctuary" housed people who were outcast from the normal homes atop iterators, but were still given the luxury of safety from the rain. The other option is that it was a secret for the ancients who hated the idea of a true death, which adds on to the Undergrowth echo in saint. It appears they wanted to be as far away as possible from the void, them looking upward instead of to the void below. The story of this place is probably the best I've seen in a mod, many of the echos from the base game that have a high elevation (like the one in Chimny) seem to express a form of regret and longing to sit on their perch again. Overall, I like the story implications it would have if it were canon

I believe that gate you went through that didn't have anything in it actually leads to Aether Ridge of all places. Of course, Aether Ridge doesn't really... exist yet, as it hasn't been ported to this version of the game. But from what the mod page says, Golden Sancuary connects to there, Arid Barrens, and The Mast. So once it does come out, that's going to be the location.

4:55 yo! I haven’t played this mod, but from the looks of the cone shape and the fact that you can’t escape from it, this looks to be inspired by an antlions trap! Those guys will dig cone shaped pits into sand/dirt and bury themselves at the bottom, waiting for an ant to fall in. It’s created to be at a certain angle that the sand will just slowly give way under their feet if they try to climb up. I wonder if this is just going to be a quirk in the region or if the creator is planning to add a creature?
