Love ❤️ this classic hit from 1979 . RIP Rupert. Simon Bates even used the ending on his Radio 📻 One segment. I'm glad that I still have my vinyl copy . It's a great trip down memory lane. I was only 14 when this was in the pop charts . Why do we still have a pop chart with the dross that's around today?

The song was championed by Tony Blackburn.on Radio 1 as Record of the Week. The BBC originally banned it because of it's gay promiscuity. It was a hit when it was featured as a sound track on Captain Kremmen.

To this day, I still remember all the words. I learnt the song lyrics only to find out the actual name of the place is slightly different (changed to fit the song rythm), so I learnt that too and often get them tangled up..lol

Yeah- as a kid I was always sure it was Native American 'lingo' (I expect that was the idea?) -although hearing it as an adult you can 'make' it straight away as Maori. Probably wouldn't have in the 70's though- that's when down - under seemed like the other side of the world! Note to Kiwis - I know, I know- that's why I used lower case, no correspondence please! Either way, having it roll off the tongue like he does - pretty damn impressive!
