Me too. I don't care what women say there is so much unnecessary discomfort involved which had never been worth compromising my comfort for more than a few hrs if that. Ugh! Thanks for saying it out loud!! 👏

Although I have never worn a lace front from what I see yes they look like way too much work to “look natural” personally I’d rather take that time and work on my own hair. The last time I wore braids for whatever reason when I took them out my hair looked like heat damage but I didn’t blow out before hand but I had no issues prior. Seems like I can’t do that either unless with human hair. My hair has recovered and I’m jsut like I’m working with what I have and done . I don’t knock those who wear it just not for me.

What works for one may not work for others, and genetics and lifestyles play a big role in healthy hair and scalp.

Very true not a one size fits all I agree with that. However, I have noticed a significant surge of women wearing wigs constantly and using glue ect. So this is just a caution warning. Thank you for commenting!

I never comment but I see your point 💯. I think women have lost their identity to the point where the wigs and false lashes are ridiculous. Men do not know who they date nowadays. Thanks for you perspective on this it needed to be said.

No, you are not being mean. You are so right about then wigs~my hair in the front is thinning & receding. It will not grow back due to Lupu😢, I think. I never liked wigs, and I never thought I would be wearing them. I have worn the pull string ponytails, sew in weave, & glue in weave. You have nice hair, similar to mine. I want to go natural, but my hair is so thin on top. Do you have any suggestions? Keep doing your videos ~ I enjoyed your tips on Black girl hair styles 😊

Aw thank you ! Sometimes we just have to go through things to understand what not to do, ya know. So it’s all a learning experience for sure. I know some videos online like rice water helps hair growth maybe you can try that? Castor oil and some other oil remedies. I think it’s all about consistency too when trying it. I wish you well on your hair journey, thank you for commenting!

I had hair loss in the middle & on the sides of my head. What is helping are: changing my diet ( green juicing, lean meat etc), lab work from my doctor (discovered my iron was low), physical exercise, reduce stress, at home Irestore cap/laser treatment, steroid shots (from dermatologist),using more natural products shampoo, conditioner etc, taking multi vitamin/multi mineral supplements, vitamin D supplement ( most black folks have low vitamin D levels), turmeric supplement (anti-inflammatory), probiotic & of course no more wigs, extensions, crochet braids, pony tails updos etc. It takes about 3 to 6 months of consistency to see some improvement.

I'm a thalessemia carrier and I rotate my styles so that I'm not putting tension on one area for too long. I currently have hair loss in my crown but it's not completely bald and it always grows back... Hopefully it will this time with the perimenopause. I do put in a lot of my styles myself so that I can take them down every night or redo the braid if it is too tight. I don't glue down my wigs. I use hair bobby pins, the wig grip, combs and the hair spray method.
@marleyhill348 ай бұрын
@@sunshineflowers9589 Agree with everything you said and I've done them all except the steroid shots. My trichologists say no added hair for 3 to 6 months. also.

I want to wear my natural hair so bad but don't want to maintain the look, figure out the product of what works best for my hair, andddddddd my double chin/full face is coming in😭confession I want to perm my hair so bad....
@Nicki_NJ8889 ай бұрын
Just came across your channel 😊, your points are correct. I've been thinking about this, as a lot more black girls and women in todays generation are suffering from hair loss, alopecia, and losing their edges comparing to previous generations. I think it's the wigs, tight hairstyles, and overuse of hair gels/ product that leave a build up in the pores of the scalp. I've been natural since 2014, when I did get lace fronts all my edges would be gone after wearing it 😂and the rate of my hair growth was slow due to clogged pores in my scalp from frequently using gel/perms. Since then I've used no perm, gel, or wigs, my hair is the longest, and healthiest it's ever been my edges are full and silky-smooth and lay down without me applying any product. Our hair seriously flourishes when we stop following societies beauty standard's, and live by our own, loving and caring for our crown's 🖤🖤👸🏾

Thank you so much for commenting and sharing your experience. Also, for highlighting the ponytails I completely forgot to mention! That is actually one of the things that pull our hair strands out overtime because of the tension. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I think the newer generation is actually thinking it’s doing no harm but overtime they will start to see the repercussions of wig wearing.

My mom is 74 this year and she lost all her edges from the wigs in the 60s and 70s and relaxer. I remember girls losing their edges from box braids and relaxers in the 90s. In the 2000s and 2010s I saw women lose hair from locs that were retwisted and retightened. Look up hot comb alopecia from 1968. We stopped using hot combs mostly so they changed the name to CCCA. Black women with locs, relaxer and natural hair all have CCCA. I think it's oxidative stress personally.
@Urbanebony8 ай бұрын
@@marleyhill34 Yes you have seen the evolution of hair in the Black community first hand so you understand, thank you! This is such a good comment because it’s been proven that “some hairstyles” can be detrimental over time. Like when we talk about relaxers/perms our parents didn’t know that it would cause cancer years later. So all I wanted to do was just warn my Sistas to just be cautious. Even though I know women wear wigs for different reasons. It’s still something to think about and have information for later down the road. You helped to rest my case lol 🙏🏽

Way to work that hair rather than immediately combing it out! You could probably get another week out of it, on the third day maybe 'separate the twists' and let it get a 'little' poofy, then do your 'Shampoo Routine' and on to the next _Style!_ It's good that as a former LOCK wearer, you understand that leaving your hair in ANY protective style too long will result in your hair NATURALLY LOCKING on you! You just have to decide, based on *your hair,* how long is too long. I personally don't have a problem with Sisters 'rocking' protective styles, I just don't want them to get the idea that those styles somehow mean they don't have to TAKE CARE OF THEIR HAIR. Be blessed.
@marleyhill348 ай бұрын
The way how my scalp and hair are set up I can't wear the same style over and over. Wherever the tension is there will be breakage and whenever my ends are loose, they tangle, dry out, and break off. That's just the nature of my hair and scalp. I'm 42 and I've had breakage and alopecia all over my head. With added hair and without added hair. With chemicals and without chemicals. So I'm used to hair loss. These days most people don't know that I have hair loss because it's easily hidden in my Afro or updos. if I had straight hair it would be more noticeable or if I had locs. I decided last year to stop obsessing over the health of my hair because with being a Thalessemia carrier, living somewhere with little to no sun and dealing with neurodivergent stress, my hair will not flourish. All I can do is keep my edges and most of my follicles and strands and avoid completely bald patches. I rotate my styles every 3 months: Winter: Wigs, Spring: natural up, and tucked styles with clip-ins or hair pieces or pony tails. Summer natural Afro and wash and go and Fall/autumn: braided or twisted extensions. My edges touch my eyebrows..despite wearing wigs and shaving off half my edges at the beginning of summer in June 2023 in a bald tapered fade cut.
@Urbanebony8 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience that is a good point about not wearing the same style for too long. It’s nice that you can hide it in your Afro and it’s not noticeable. I have hair loss on my sides from the Locs, but it could have been worse if I had kept them. Coming them out was the best decision I made. Blessings on your hair journey!

A lot of these "all naturale" hair styles look dry, brittle and unkept. Just saw one today, looked like she hadn't combed, washed or styled her hair in months. I think with the proper care and daily maintenance, any style can be worn without harm to our skin & scalp. Not everyone has the liberty of wearing their hair out in order to breathe, so they gotta do whatever's necessary to feel beautiful even if it's wearing an unit, sew in, clip in, etc
@Urbanebony9 ай бұрын
I agree that proper maintenance and our hair can then thrive. I am actually working on keeping my hair more hydrated.. it’s such a commitment lol. I do believe some women have to do what they have to do, especially dealing with alopecia things like that. This was more related women constantly wearing wigs and how it can cause so much damage overtime. I just want my Sisters to know what they’re really getting into if they decide to do it regularly. Thank you for commenting !

Any hair style will look dry, brittle and unkept if you don't care for it...including these 1000 bucks wigs I see these women wearing. looking like they just rolled out of bed with the wig and didn't even brush it. Whyte ladies usually brush their hair before leaving the house. We have to get to a level where we feel beautiful without any enhancements regardless of ethnicity or income.

@marleyhill34 You're entitled to your observation & opinion, and so am I. Obviously, we live in different areas, so I'm not sure where you reside, but 95% of the caucasian women I see, no matter what their social or economic status is, walk around looking dishelved or with a bad case of bedhead. They are not known for maintaining their hair. I'm sorry you seem triggered by my comment, but it is what it is.

@@Freethnkr Oh I live in London, England and have travelled to 4 continents. I've lived in the Caribbean also. The people I associate with brush/comb their hair regardless of race or income/social status unless it's locs. Even locs will look bad if you don't care for them.

Dry natural hair will always look better than a prosthetic scalp and silky asian hair! Im against lace fronts but if you are gonna wear one at least cut some bangs and wear a texture that is similar to your own! The lace should not be on full display imo, it should be backup in case the wind blows and people get a glimpse of your “scalp”. When you proudly display the lace just know that it gives uncanny valley. No matter how well its laid. Cut some bangs or some face framing layers so the lace isnt the center of attention. That’s my 2 cents.

This is a topic you should have gone into with a lot of detail and I think it's important to scrutinze why we choose to present the way we do. That being said, I dont think youre being mean but I dont think you are equipped to have this nuanced conversation. You say women shouldn't wear wigs, but you think sew-ins are fine, and that distinction says it all. I dont really think this is about authenticity, its more so about respectability for you and your personal view of what looks good, you touch on a few good points about the damage improperly installed wigs and hairstyles can do to the health of our hair. I think we need more voices encouraging women to embrace how they look and feel comfortable even with hair that does have alopecia and no edges. We don't need to shame each other, because that's how we got to the point of relaxers, silk presses, wigs, gelled up hair styles, believing that looser textures are better, and unrealistic aspirations for long hair. We need to do better. You need to do better. Again you had a great idea here, but you ended up reinforcing the predjudices black women experience with heir hair. Why is a black woman having a wig and adjusting the wig a problem for you? Why shame her for it? The only way we can truly liberate ourselve is to uplift each other and do away with all these prescriptions. Let black women exist without judging them. Let them be free of judgment for once. In parting, I'd like to remind you of lipglossssssssss.

Thank you for commenting. I understand we all have different perspectives. I do believe people are going to do what they want and who am I to stop them. I can’t force anyone to stop wearing wigs for the reasons I mentioned above or even a sew in for that matter. I just want women to be more aware of the potential damage of “constant wig wearing”. It’s all about being aware. It wouldn’t be Love to keep certain knowledge from my people especially something that I know can harm them. Not out of judgment, but out of concern. I personally believe it would be selfish of me to keep that information away from something I’m visibly noticing in the hair community. If a woman wants to wear sew in because it might be better than wearing glue all the time on her forehead then if she chooses to do that, so be it. There’s certain things that I don’t necessarily do for myself but someone else might do for them. I’m going to call out something when I see it’s harming black women just like how I highlighted relaxers/perms. I can’t force anyone to be wig free or even eat better, live better, do better ect. All I can do is bring attention to it. 🤷🏾♀️

I'll be honest as someone with weak scalp and hair strands the only hairstyle that never took my hair out was/is an Afro. Everything else either at one point caused too much tension or caused damage or caused my ends to dry out and break off. Now I know this, I rotate my styles and do not wear one style for too long and ....change my partings..like my trichologist said. Lol! yup a middle part caused me issues! My scalp be trolling me.
