For those curious, these are American Shetlands which are a mixed breed (with hackney) to get the long legs, so they're not the pudgy short-legged European shetties.

I'm pretty sure they retired him after a large number of complaints or the retired him after he won just about every race. He is in fact a shetland by just a smidge.
