Boy does this ever bring back memories. Them mentioning the hostages in Iran was ironic in the fact that they would not be released until 1yr 1day from this broadcast....444 total days they were held and Reagans' team played political games with their freedom. And the next day was a very memorable day for all of the tri-state area as the Steelers won their 4th ring. And could you imagine a 50 some odd minute delay in a hockey game while they fought it out in todays game(2024). Amazing video...the burgh baby, i was 1 month shy of my 18th birthday and a senior at franklin regional, and in the PA national guard as a split traineel. I did my basic training at Ft. Dix the previois summer and let for Ft. Lee for AIT in june after graduation. And that Sonny Bono comment about killing yourself skiing, how prophetic...RIP Sonny. Cant believe that was 44 years ago...holy cow.

I know this comment is gonna be on /r/lewronggeneration but I don't care. Growing up in the 80s and 90s seems amazing. the best music, the best TV, the best radio, everything seems amazing. I wanna thank you, NewsActive3, for uploading all of these local news shows form so many different affiliates of different networks. If you can think of a TV channel, there is most likely a news segment on this channel. Just that simple. I love the central Ohio and Pittsburgh TV so much. Also seeing other stations from other states is pretty sweet, too. I have a bunch of 90s stuff sadly and very little 80s so your 80s newscasts are really cool. Again, thanks for the hours of entertaining 80s and 90s TV :)

Why, back when I was a boy it was WIIC, and it will ALWAYS be WIIC to me. Loved watching Studio Wrestling on WIIC while eating Isaly's chipped ham on Braun's Town Talk bread, worshed down with a cold glass of Lemon Blennd.

With the new NBC show This Is Us being set in Pittsburgh partially during this time period it would have been awesome if this week's episode where the Steelers won Super Bowl XIV would have included the open to this newscast for the night before the game.

For a station in a market that size at the time, I’m amazed they were still using film and didn’t transition to videotape for their reports yet.

jerseyfla The station's niche was and still is for a local feel. Production wasn't at the level of the other two.

Is that the same Pat Finn that was on the Joker's Wild in 1990?

Yes. In between, he did weather at KRON 4 in San Francisco for several years in the '80s.

You can tell this station didn't have much money poured into their news department as almost all of the local news reports were done on film and it looks like they took the only videotape camera with them to California with Sam Nover for the pre-Super Bowl festivities.

jerseyfla Channel 11 probably didn't care about it's news department because they were getting beat badly by Channel's 2 and 4.

Trapper John in a bobsled

Yes it was Wayne Rogers in a bobsled from "Top Of The Hill". He was a few years past his Trapper John McIntyre role on "M*A*S*H", he left "M*A*S*H" after season 3. By winter 1980, Trapper John, M.D., a spinoff of "M*A*S*H" became a Sunday Night 10pm stable on CBS and it was starring Pernell Roberts of "Bonanza" fame as Trapper John McIntrye of San Francisco Memorial Hospital.
