I also think the simplicity of his design is part of what makes it so good, as well as it's implications. I think that a lot of the characters who we tend to remember the most - from Mickey Mouse to Superman - tend to have these simple, iconic designs. Slenderman I think fits handily into that category. Further, I think the fact that his design screams "almost human, but most definitely not" says so much about his nature as a character/creature - wearing human clothing implies intelligence and a certain understanding of human norms, but the elongated body and lack of a face shows how truly inhuman he is. In fact, the lack of a face shows that not only is he inhuman, but completely otherworldly. I honestly think his design is utterly brilliant - it says so much with so little.

That's exactly what horror stories originally were--stories about things that were beyond human understanding, often to the point where it drove humans insane. H. P. Lovecraft was the master in that field, and most people are at least aware of the Cthulhu mythos. I have no interest whatsoever in gory films full of jump-scares--they're boring at best, and the stories tend to be very poorly constructed. A number of Lovecraft's stories have been made into films, and some are quite good. You've probably even seen at least one without realizing it. Vincent Price was in at least a couple of them.

I've said this so many times I've lost count, but the most fascinating thing about the Slender Man mythos to me is that, when it started getting popular, it was pretty much a front row seat to seeing how Folklore is created. I got interested in it around 2012 and got to researching if it was a story itself before the internet, or if it was a fairly new thing. Its origin was fairly easy to track down (it was almost underwhelming), but at the same time I realized that the whole thing was fairly new and just building steam. It really makes me want to create my own folklore monster!

I love how the everymanHYBRID series does slenderman. The idea of the story is a group of a few college age kids want to make a slenderman hoax, because slendy is a known fictional character in thier world. They make a youtube channel about fitness and weightlifting, with a shitty slenderman dummy in the background, or one of their friends in a slenderman costume. The problem is that some malicious comsic entity thats *somewhat* similar to the fictional slenderman did exist, and takes the boy's hoax as an insult/invite. The monster starts haunting them for real, but it takes the boy a bit to realize its not part of the show.
@mrenygma1813 жыл бұрын
That kind of reminds me of the story of "Wes Craven's New Nightmare". Basically, Wes Craven 'trapped' an evil entity inside the medium of cinema AS 'Freddy Krueger', and each sequel was an attempt at keeping said 'entity' trapped in his fictitious prison. After a few years and no new sequel, the supernatural bounds keeping the entity at bay began to weaken, and since it had 'grown fond of being Freddy', it started breaking through the boundaries between the movies and real life as a darker, more malevolent version of Krueger, stalking the dreams of those involved with the original "Nightmare on Elm Street". The movie itself was meh, but the premise was REALLY cool. The actors and actresses, using their real names and portraying themselves, being haunted and hunted by a monster they fought in a movie.

The creepiest place I’ve ever been in was a dental hospital or something along those lines, the was used as a mental asylum in the past so I was very tense entering it. Then I had to go do a radiography and it was full of barrels with the toxic or radioactive sign and I was shitting myself while walking

I paid $11 to watch the slenderman movie in theaters. The friend of mine I was with is not a fan of video games and had no idea what slender man was. It Was bar none the worst movie I have ever watched

Slenderman would make for a great and really suspenseful psychological horror movie judging by the powers he has
@benebediktas3 жыл бұрын
@@mrcritical6751 That's the thing. The ARGs made by amateur filmmakers (Marble Horntes, EVERYMANhybrid) are great but the movies are so god damn awful
@lukebarron56983 жыл бұрын
@@mrcritical6751 the issue is exactly that. All of his powers are just things there are ripped off from other Classic horror monsters. That and because of the Popularity of things like market player which turned the premise of the game from a horror movie into a comedy it is impossible to buy into the tension

Imagine walking through the woods and you see a note that says he is risen or some dumb shit like that and while you are reading it a huge tree slowly flies past while being on fire and in the distance theres just some extremely pale dude with no face wearing a fucking tux and then you start vomiting for some reason
