Every day if you can. You’re trying to keep them from getting swampy. If the water stinks, you’re likely late to changing their water so change it more if in direct sunlight.

Horrible? It’s not horrible because you don’t have the necessary products on hand. Most people would watch the video, make a shopping list based on the video, but said products and use them. Not many people would think this is a horrible video and announce it in the comments because they don’t have these items on hand. Get to the store silly.
