I sang this song to my girlfriend everytime at airport, when I was traveling back to italy. We've been together for 5yrs, LDR 🇮🇹🇵🇭-🇵🇭 I was a fresh paramedic and she was going to graduate as a nurse. I was ready to ask her hand. We wanted to serve in the US as EMS/EMTs and all our papers were ready for our dream. A month before my proposal, I received a call. A DUI struck her on the pedestrian line. She slipped into coma when EMS arrived into the scene, succumbing to her injuries after she tried to aid the other girl with her. I've booked the first flight available. She passed away right after I've held her hand when I walked in to her room. Maybe she was waiting me for a last goodbye. From her funeral, I only remember me, walking behind the hearse, in my operative uniform. She loved that uniform, with a big red cross on the back and she loved my shoulder patch. - Paramedic G. "nine-breaker" R. - had written on. I ripped it off from my shoulder and put it on her chest. No tears, no words, only my breathing. This song was my "arrivederci" (till we meet again) to her. Then it become my "addio" (goodbye). Sorry for my long stort but today is the 9th anniversary and this song popped out unexpectedly... - UPDATE - Thanks to everyone for reading my story and cheering for us. I appreciate your feedbacks. It was my darkest period and I still carry the effect of the pain. Everything happened long time ago but I think you never fully heal from a such "injury". You just get used and ignore the pain. Anyway... If you're interested, I started dating again with an🇺🇲🇵🇭 (she is from Hawaii😊).

For me, this song is everything. EVERYTHING! I was struggling with my Christian faith 2 years ago. Defeated and confused I turned to alternative rock music just to fill the void and deflate. I was not new to Nickleback. Broken, I asked the Lord in tears to speak to me and this song honestly popped up out of nowhere. I was so surprised because how is it that I've never heard this Nickleback before? Then I heard the Lord clear as day speak to me through this song: "I love you, I've loved you all along I've missed you, been far away for far too long...." This song came out when my first love & I got back together after 21 years!!! We dated when I was 15 & he was 17 for 6 months. We broke up then got back together when I was 17 until I was 19. We were young & passionately in love but just too young. We kept in touch on & off through the years. I married, had 2 children, got divorced. This might be strange, but I relate the last minute of this song to me and my father. He wrestled with alot of demons as I grew up and was in and out of my childhood When I was a teenager he started putting in a serious effort to start getting better ,and it took me until I was 17 to fully be able to let my guard down. He had pitfalls, but he never gave up, and kept working hard to rebuild a connection with me, and it's been strong ever since. Last month I watched him get married to an amazing woman and gained two sisters in turn. I'm proud of my father for how far he's come, and I'm glad to have him in my life properly.

Take it from me... rock musicians tend to be salty over bands like Nickelback and refer to them as sell outs because they write songs strictly to tug at the heart strings of the general population, and focus on super melodic Choruses and notes. I’ve been a metal musician my entire life and I have always been able to see past that and recognize that Nickelback is an extremely talented band. Watching the music video for this song has caused me to deem it the unofficial anthem for first responders (police officers, firefighters, paramedics, doctors, nurses and Red Cross workers) because when disaster strikes our communities they are there for us. Nickelback is an awesome band and storyteller!!! This is definitely a love song for couples!!! This song came out when my Brother was killed in Afghanistan and him and his wife had been together for 25 years and he had served in the US Army for 21 of those years!!! When she got the call that he had been killed in the line of duty!!! I was the first one she contacted as I'm my brother's oldest sister and BFF, and we both were Soldiers who served in the Military, him in the Army as a Master Sargent and me in the Navy as a CWO4, and she knew I would know what needed to be done being that I was serving at the time we lost my only Brother!!! While we were crying and trying to put things into perspective, this song came on and she busted out crying and she turned it up so I could here which song was playing and it was this song, Far Away, and she told me that this was her and my brother's song!!! This brought back many memories for her, but all good ones!!! Thank you Nickelback for such a beautiful song that we can all relate to and that it brings up good memories and bad memories but they do usually go hand in hand!!! God bless you guys in all your endeavors and thanks again for writing such a beautiful song!!!! Damn, still can't make it through this song without crying. I've been through a lot, but funny enough every time I listen to this that hole in my heart grows ever so smaller. Gotta learn how to love again, I lost it all over the past few years, first being abandoned by my mother and being separated from the friends I had made and gotten close too, watching my two younger brothers struggle while I was unable to do anything to help them, falling deeply in love with this sweet Georgian girl, getting heart broken, coming back to my family, and then becoming homeless for 4 months. Life has really kicked my ass, but I am not gonna give up like I once thought of doing. I want to live, I just don't know really how to yet. I try my best to face my pain, and I am honestly glad that this song is around because without it I wouldn't be able to cry to let all that pain out. I know I feel alone most the time, always trapped inside my own head. I find myself spacing out completely a lot when I am in public, just today I didn't notice a waiter waiting to give me my order until she put her hand right in front of my face. Anyway, I have no real clue why I just said all this on a KZbin comments section of all places, but now I am ready to listen to it again. I've been asking myself this a lot lately, but how does someone learn to love again after those he loved most abandoned him? If anyone has any good answers, I am willing to see and read them, though I doubt many people will even see this comment xD

This reminds me of my daughter in law. Six months after she blessed us with our first grandchild she died in surgery. Dr said simple surgery no problems. I still feel the pain daily. The struggle to find the strength to move forward is a daily fight. Its been 16 yesrs and our baby is almost 17. He looks and has the heart of his mother.
