To the ppl wondering why they didn’t hear about this: The title is kind of a misnomer. This wasn’t their first gig, they were just testing out how they’d do live. The “gig” wasn’t announced anywhere & they played under the name “Lampwith Sock” (hilarious Tommy, hilarious). Edit: also, for ppl looking for the full gig video, it’s unlisted. Thats why wilbur is able to pull it up, it’s not accessible to anyone without the link (everyone but lovejoy).

Omg wait ok so imagine… You’re in the crowd, and you had your trumpet with you because you had been performing on the street just before. You notice nobody in the band had a trumpet, so you decided to set yours up and play the songs with them in the crowd, as you had studied every. Single. Song. Ash then signals you up on stage to play with him and the rest of the band. After the show, they ask you to play for them “full time” as their “trumpeteer” as Wilbur called it.
