Michael McDonald, took the Doobie Brothers in a different direction when he came in to fill in for a very ill Tom Johnston. Mega hits followed, but it was not the same Doobie Brothers. Of course, McDonald went on to become a megastar in his own rights.

They were just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. They brought in Michael McDonald for lead vocals after founding member Tom Johnston wanted a break. They had been touring steadily for years and Johnson was getting worn down and it was affecting him medically. Michael McDonald .... beautiful voice and it was a great move on their part. Already a popular band, they exploded after McDonald joined.

The only Doobie Brothers song which never gets even close to the studio version when they do it live. As if they can't reproduce it live? I am so horrified by this version because the record version is my favorite song of all time. Why does everyone only react to this awful version? I begged Jamel AKA Jamal to do the studio version and compare how much funk and soul is missing from this junky video tape. So I beg you also. Please do the studio version. In this case, it's like a totally different song.

One way(of many) you can tell they are a "band" is how Michael goes to start the verse at the beginning, and the guitarist throws in a lick right before. Michael just backs off and waits another bar and carries on. That's fucking teamwork.
