The man had a gift, a special kind of gift. How many know that Elvis had an identical twin brother that died at birth? What if he lived and the two of them belted out these kinds of songs? It would have been too much. The world could not have received it. I read a biography of Elvis by his personal, long time barber/ hairdresser. He said that the one question Elvis had, repeated countless times to him was "Why me? Why me, and not him?

The fans gave Elvis the title of "the king of rock and roll", and that is beyond dispute, but Elvis has also been called , "the prince from another planet" , because he was so GREAT at what he did he seemed otherworldly . There's something about Elvis that can't really be explained...Yes, he was good looking, yes. he was extremely talented , and yes, he had charisma that was off the charts, but even all that doesn't really fully explain the appeal of Elvis Presley...Sometimes I wonder if he WAS a prince from another planet.

Thank you for your reaction to Elvis. You are right, some people hate Elvis and never listened to his music. I am an old fan since the 50's, if you have seen "Elvis Presley and the Black Community". You know he was hated from all directions. Men were jealous of him because their women loved him. An incident after the Sullivan show he was leaving a concert in the South and a guy came up to him and asked for an autograph and punched him in the mouth, that's when he knew he need a bodyguard.

My older brother called me and said ,"Sis, I need help." He was a severe drug addict and alcoholic. I sent money for him to come home. He drove from OKC to home. He pulled up in my drive and what came out made me choke back tears. My 6-foot handsome brother was skeletal. The drugs he took since the age of 13 ruined his body and his handsome looks were gone. Three years after coming home he died in my arms. He searched for peace and never found it. I would have walked in cold rain for him for miles if he would have beat the addictions/demons he carried. The day he literally died in my arms hurt so much. We search for those we love.

Kentucky Rain was written by Eddie Rabbit, a prolific songwriter and performer. "I Love a Rainy Night" "You and I" "Drivin' My Life Away" "Step by Step" "I Can't Help Myself". Great so gs!! Dial them and play his songs sometime!!
@thomastimlin1724 Жыл бұрын
always appreciate people smart enough like yourself to know the writers of these songs that the great performers sing. especially ones that became performers themselves, like Mac Davis is another one for Elvis [in the Ghetto, Don't Cry Daddy, A Little Less Conversation [originally from the movie "Live a Little, Love a Little" 1968, NOT the 2003 remix] co written by Billy strange. one may be a great performer, but not without good songs, and if you don;t write your own songs, you don't sing without these people.
@kdmcallister3537 Жыл бұрын
Manohman!! Sart?? Gotta love that!! I was an Eddie Rabbit fan, especially after I met him on a local street corner here in Ohio waiting for a light to change. He was jogging. I was shocked to see him. He recognized my shock, then commented on our nice town. He gave a community concert on the courthouse Square that evening. I coerced my 13 y.o. daughter to attend the concert (under protest), but she admitted later she "kinda" enjoyed. Oddly enough, she went to college in Nashville and lived down the hall from Rabbit's daughter and got to know her a bit. Her father had already passed a couple years prior. My daughter appreciated that I had told her when it happened. Vince Gill's daughter was also in the dorm. Agree on the songwriter comments. Loved Mac Davis. Ronnie Dunn moved to Nashville to be a songwriter, met Kix Brooks in so doing. The rest is history. In pop music, Barry Manilow was Bette Midler'susic director and pianist before stepping out. Even Bob Dylan was more of a folk songwriter early on.

It's powerful. And it's Elvis at his best. In front of an audience and givihus all to them. Particularly the girls sitting close to the stage. Here are a few more suggestions. LOVE ME, ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT? RECONSIDER BABY, & HOUND DOG from the Ed Sullivan Show in 1956. This is the performance that got him in trouble for shaking his hips on television. Chod, you might have to buckle her to the chair. Just make sure she has some water around for relief. Enjoy

From a drumming standpoint, the groove is a fairly consistent soulful behind-the-beat groove. Except for the re-entry on "Searchin' for YOU" where they momentarily flip to drive it on top of the beat. Very subtle yet VERY effective. The studio crew at American Studios in Memphis knew what they were doin'. Beautiful custom-tailored arrangement for 'E'.

Just fyi, artists didn't write their own music until The Beatles came along. In the 50's & early 60's there were singers & there were songwriters. Singers chose songs they wanted to record or sometimes songs were written specifically for them. It's just the way it was. Elvis did usually arrange the music to suit him but was not a songwriter. Neither was Sinatra or any other well known performer. The Beatles & other Rock bands that followed them established the expectations that artists write their own music. Thanks for reacting to Elvis. He had a God given gift, was an amazing person & deserves to be always remembered. 💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙

Elvis was the King; however, like almost all singers and bands before The Beatles, he did NOT write any of his songs, though he was involved in the production of his songs. Both Elvis and Michael Jackson had drug problems, as many of their stature and fame do....but it does not take away from their greatness as performers. There are plenty of regular every day people with the same problems, of which our country still sucks at addressing the full picture of the problem. Too much money to be made by the rich and powerful ...such as the OxyContin problem and the drug companies who contribute big campaign funds to both sides of the fence. [the fence that shouldn't be there anyway].
