The "kiddy family" song was invented in the 1970s by Norwich fans - about Norwich fans 😁. Because Norfolk is rural and remote they got the reputation and played up to it. A similar self-mocking song was done by Ipswich to the South "I can't read and I can't write but that don't really matter. I support the Ipswich Town and I can drive a tractor".

Good Reaction Guys. Many songs are repeated in every game while others are created on the fly (like the "Dick Back" one ). That was the Sunderland AWAY fans who travelled the whole length of the country to support their team and their Dutch Manager had recently been Dick Advocaat, and they wanted him to return. The "Fire Drill" was sung by Spurs AWAY fans as the Home fans were leaving early as they were well beaten (hence why are u leaving? Is there a Fire Drill? _). Balotelli lost "a wallet full of cash" in a newspaper story. Manchester City beat Manchester United 6/1 AWAY from Home and claimed bragging rights to their City but then played against top European teams and played 6 matches and did not win any(hence THe Manchester United fans responding at a later date "6 games in Europe, you couldn't win one

You wondered if the players know about the songs. The Coloccini chant is from my team, Newcastle United. We signed a player called Bruno Guimaraes, from Lyon (french), he's Brazilian. The chant is Bruno's fucking magic. He wears a magic hat, he could have signed for Arsenal, but he said no Fuck that. He wants to play for Eddie, in the famous black and white, and when we win the premiership we'll sing this song all night. About two weeks later, he put a black and white jester hat on his head. They love the chants, well the positive ones anyway.

The British have used football chants for at least 60 years. Those chants are either long standing or new that are topical to the opposing team club or player. Some are just made up that match, sung by one person, if its any good others join in, if its OK it gets modified until its sung. If its really good other teams fan will use it too. Players, clubs and the police just let it go, if its deemed bad taste but funny, its sung, if its bad taste and just racist abuse it gets stopped by the fans very quickly. Its all freedom of speech and curtailed if too racist or hate chants. Other than that US fans need to come up with their own chants or borrow British ones, its not gonna be called out for theft, as it would be seen as a compliment.

I can confirm that. I went to QPR V Millwall at QPR in 1964/65 and being young I counted 64 chants by the Millwall fand throughout the game and though Away from Home,Millwall had both ends of the ground. They still lost though. lol Many of the chants said BxxxOX To Rangers:)

If you aren’t sure why they are chanting "is there a fire drill?", it’s because the opposing teams fans are leaving the stadium because their team is losing, and there might not be enough time to comeback and take the lead. So there’s no point in staying. If there was a fire drill, you’d have to leave the stadium as well. Thus the fans are asking if there’s fans are leaving because of a fire drill.

4:50 John Lewis is a chain of up market department stores in the UK. This chant reminds me of when we played Luton Town and their keeper's surname (written on the back of his shirt obvs) was Justham. We sang "You're just a shit Tesco sandwich,, you're just a shit Tesco sandwich...". (Tesco is a chain of supermarkets) Apparently other teams supporters heard it (or thought of the same chant?) and it followed him around for the rest of the season, possibly his career! 6:02 "Can we play you every week" This is often sung when you're thrashing a team, especially if its not the first time you've thrashed them in the season. 9:37 "Is this a fire drill" When your team is getting thrashed it's often tempting to leave early. When this happens en masse this song is often sung by your opposition. 10:37 The words of the chant just spread around the crowd, especially the shorter ones, these chants generally follow a common format that's sung by a lot of team's supporters. The longer chants, with more complicated words, are often thought of (and practised) on the train home from away matches. The rest of the supporters will pick up the words pretty quickly. A lot of teams supporters have songs that they keep for years, Wimbledon (my team) has one known as The Champagne Song, sung to the tune of Sailing by Rod Stewart: Chorus: Wombles, we are Wombles, We are Wombles from the lane, (Plough Lane, the road our ground is on) We are Wombles, super Wombles, We are Wombles from the lane. 1st verse: "We drink champagne, We snort cocaine, We've got ladies over here, You've got shit jobs, You shag your dogs, And you wife is on the game" Chorus again... 2nd verse: "We drink Campari, We drive Ferrari, We've got Wombles in our lives, You've got bus stops, And second hand shops, And you mum's in Readers Wives" Edit: If you google "readers wives" maybe do it in private browsing mode...
