Yeah. Shows today are just full of greasy info and it’s mostly people talking about themselves and trying to be famous.

The peacock of the Americas. I'll be sticking with a roast chicken for my autumn thanksgiving, I can't eat a peacock they're too splendid. We should be building them splendid gardens to dwell in, not for eating

I remember the major comeback in the early 2000's but since have drastically decreased to almost nonexistent here in New York state most likely do to mass development and predation. Predator populations have increased significantly in the last decade or more. Also lack of updated bag limits to accommodate the decline hasn't helped. Same with our whitetail deer population. Management goals are based on a pest control mindset plus EHD virus outbreak several years in a row has crippled our deer herd and no adjustments to our hunting seasons to help preserve our resources have been done. All about greed money and pest control.

I know they were scarce from habitat loss for a while. Didn't biologists trap some turks and set them free in the Berkshires?

@@WildAmericaAnimalChannel that's were I lived but I'm not sure what happened but they became numerous very quickly and are thriving now and hunting pressure had dropped significantly.

I have a story and a hypothesis about turkeys. So people have widely circulated the rumor that tryptophan makes you sleepy when eating turkey on thanksgiving, not just the high calorie meal. Here's what I think for why a turkey would poison you in such a mild way when you eat it: So you are alpha male of a wolf pack, hunting down some turkeys. Success! You score a couple early kills on the flock of turkeys grazing in the field and you, alpha male, get first chance to eat. You gorge yourself on a thanksgiving-esque feast of turkey, then offer the rest to your first mate and such. The rest of the wolf pack is hungry and more kills on turkeys are required to feed them... But you are sooo tired. The wolf pack won't move without your go. They aren't gorillas; they don't function independant of the alpha male. The beta males won't form a posse and go hunting without you - that would be seen as a traitorous act. But you are lying down, gorged and sleepy on delicious turkey, and so are the rest of the wolf royalty of the group. The rest of the pack lies down with you, unhappy with the hold up but unwilling to rock the boat. You drift off to dreamland and the turkeys too, have had their fill in the fields and are moving on. You awake to an angry mob of wolves, starving and dying, that has found that the Turkey flock is nowhere to be found. What could've been enough turkeys to sustain your entire pack has eluded you, all because your leadership was drugged with tryptophan. The turkey flock overwhelmingly survives their encounter with the wolf pack, and thrive in future generations. A group of turkeys that, without drugging the wolf pack leaders, may have been hunted to extinction. And that is (hypothetically) the way of the turkey... What do you think? Plausible?

I know eyesight and roosting in trees is a defense against predation in turkeys. But their meat causing sleepiness isn’t something I’ve heard of or considered. I think it would take so long to happen evolutionarily that the wolves would just evolve with it. If it were a mutation, wolves would just die out if turkeys form a substantial part of their diet. Idk, I’m sure there’s lots to consider and I’m definitely not a scientist.
