So I didn't know this, but I looked it up. Young rabbits disperse from the nest at 15-20 days old. By three weeks of age, they are on their own in the wild and no longer require a mother's care.

Baby rabbits are so vulnerable. My cat caught one and tried to eat him, but our dog saved its life. We took him to the vet, got him stitched up and got him some meds, and we decided to rehab him ourselves, because the local rehab was way over capacity. He was fine during that time, just hanging out in a big 50 gallon tote with hay and a small box to hide in. We fed him veggies, gave him fresh water every day, and tried not to handle him too much. Then after a few weeks the stitches came out and he was a lot more active, and after another month we went to release him. But he kept coming back, over and over again, so we tried a couple days later, but he still wouldn't go. He would take a few hops, look around, then run back and sit on my foot. Then we tried a 3rd time, and the same thing, only this time we walked away, but he ran after us. Not sure what to do, we named him Stitches decided to just keep him. That was 3 years ago, and he's still with us.

I’m guessing it did almost get run over and it was probably panicking pretty bad. Rabbits are prey animals their instincts are 99% flight and maybe 1% fight. A common occurrence even with domesticated rabbits is they get frightened and die of heart attacks. The fact that it wasn’t gone immediately is a strong indicator that it was out of it. The fact that it was grooming itself though is a good sign that it was comfortable with you.

Their mom was probably not far off, they leave their young to gather food, any animal this young is better off with their own mother. Only pick up baby animals if you can be sure they’re abandoned (been in the same spot for 12+ hrs with no sign of mom, extremely dehydrated/starving or injured). Naw, the bunny was suicidal because it lost it's momma and siblings in a burrow fire. So, baby was trying to get hit by a car. Fire consumed the whole bunny family except for this little guy right here. Why you think his name is Lucky? Then this hoe up on the video made him think she was gonna love him and be there for him and she just abandoned him by a tree. Real lucky.

When I was like 7, maybe 8, my grandmother and I saw our Cat pouncing at something outside(We live out in the boonies so there was a lot of grass, trees and sometimes wildlife), so she had me go out with her and had me grab our cat while she grabbed the thing He was trying to get and it happened to be a lil Baby Jackrabbit like that. We ended up taking her in since we didn't see any sign of a mother and didn't trust trying to set it loose somewhere since we had our outdoor cat who was our lil Hunter, getting Ground squirrels, rats and Rattlesnakes in our area. But yeah we took the baby rabbit in and ended up keeping her for quite a few weeks where my grandmother bottle fed her with formula she bought, she had her own little rodent cage she stayed in when we weren't watching her but otherwise under my grandmother's supervision, she got to hop around the house freely most of the time and generally always went to cuddle up on my grandmother's feet or house slippers. She always ended up doing this lil butt wiggle and got so excited whenever it was time for her to get fed and she was very healthy. But my grandfather's brother, his wife and their granddaughter who was at least 4 years younger than me came to stay for a day or two with their dog, which they didn't tell us was coming with them and aside from Honey Bunny(yes my grandmother named her that), my grandparents didn't allow many pets in the house. Especially not dogs. Their granddaughter though was a little spoiled brat though. She was just demanding and rotten. Ik she was like maybe 5? But her grandmother let her have her way with everything and when she wanted to pet the rabbit, she literally was hitting her and when I told her to stop she just said "You're supposed to share! It's my rabbit too!" Uh, no its not. But we ended up putting our rabbit into the laundry room where she normally slept in her rodent cage for the night, which I tried to check on her multiple times since the other guys dog was just barking and howling throughout the night and I knew the loud noises would scare her. She ended up getting diarrhea at some point but when I got up the next morning and they were leaving, I didn't see the cage in the laundry room and my grandfather had taken it out and set it on the front porch with a little towel over Honey bunny. She died sometime during the night from what we assume was being overstressed, maybe an injury from the kid, or just a heart attack from the dog. In any case my grandmother tried to set boundaries and rules while they were all there but the kids grandmother was a snob and so was their grandchild and it costed us Honey bunny. If she had survived, My grandparents had talked about possibly releasing her out at my grandfather's old unused gravel plant job site since it was Abandoned and there was plenty of food, other jack rabbits we had seen and hiding places she could get. It would have been relatively safe for her, but otherwise we would of just ended up keeping her if we didn't think she had as good of a chance and just gave her the best life she could try and get at that point. She was the sweetest rabbit I've experienced being around
