Brown bears are not uncommon in mountain areas , to have bears in driven hunts like this is usual for this region . Prince Franz reacted correct for this situation but lit bit late in my opinion , if you don't want to hunt them you must make you presence known and they will avoid you .

I like hunting but riding on a dead boar just shows lack of respect... this animal gave its life so you should be grateful, hunting is a serious thing so do not behave like a kid

It's some kind of ritual that hunters like to do when a new hunter takes his first animal there, here in Germany you usually stand on all fours over the animal and you get hit on the behind wit a looooong knife or a thin twig. Maybe it's some stupid alteration of getting knighted? I dunno, I've been "knighted to a hunter" myself a bit like this (not riding on an animal) You just go with the traditions, and don't as stupid questions why people do that. Germans do show respect for the animals, acutally our traditions are the most respecting of all, just look them up, all the east europe countries adopted our traditions and alterated them a bit (riding instead of kneeling e.g.)
